Reynolds League Week 1 Tulsa Stock Risers
The first week of the Reynolds League began Tuesday night with a bang. The Reynolds League has several under the radar prospects looking to make their mark each week. We break down some of the best prospects from opening night in Tulsa.
Results:
Chargers 86 Hardwork 66
Freeway 62 The Ballers 60
Team Grape 64 Hardwork 77
Tre Waggnor 2019 Bixby Point Guard (Team Grape)
Waggnor lit up the scoreboard in the final game of the night showing off his handles in the process. The ball is on a string in the hands of Waggnor as he dices up defenses at the Point. He is a high volume shooter that when he gets hot can be really tough to slow down. The first step of Waggnor mixed with his ball handling skills created openings to the basket and for his jumper. As the night continued Waggnor also dropped some dimes to teammates. Waggnor would be a great find for an NAIA program. I think he fits the KCAC conference best.
James Alexandre 2019 Tulsa Memorial Point Guard (Chargers)
Alexandre is a bulldog at the Point who seems to be improving each week. The fierce competitor attitude he brings to the hardwood is infectious to his teammates. Alexandre is a lefty with a smooth handle. The pull-up jumper was kind to Alexandre this week. If he can shoot the ball as effective as he did on Tuesday night he is going to be a major problem for opponents this winter. Alexandre is a smaller undersized Point Guard but works it to his advantage using his speed and craftiness to open up the offense to get the ball to his teammates. He is going to be a prime player for JUCO programs to take a strong look at in the 2019 Oklahoma Class.
Larry King 2019 Union Guard (The Ballers)
King is a guy flying way under the radar and after our opening night, I am sold on his talents. He has the body of a Wing but handled the ball most of the night like a Point Guard. In college, King is going to be a Wing and it will help he can handle the basketball as well as he can. The strong determined drive of King was impressive. Another thing of note colleges will like the fact King does not take a ton of bad jump shots. King plays with a high motor at all times and will jump out to small college programs. He got some minutes at Union last year and I would expect he makes a big jump this year.
Julian Cockrell 2019 Tulsa Memorial Post (Chargers)
Cockrell is starting to finally grow into his body on the court as he enters his senior season. For his entire career Cockrell showed lots of potential, now he is turning his potential into production. He was stellar around the basket finding great ways to finish around the rim. On defense, Cockrell was a force blocking and adjusting shots. He is going to be a good find for a small college. If he goes to the right JUCO program he could be a prospect who blossoms late into a nice player.
Peyton Dees 2019 Collinsville Wing (Hardwork)
Dees is a prospect I did not know entering the night, but as I walked out of the gym thought to myself how did I not know this talented Wing. The long, lanky build of Dees allows him to get his shot off over most defenders with ease. He has a smooth looking jumper from behind the arc that fell throughout the night. In both games, Dees shined once he found his shot. The length of Dees makes up for what he lacks in speed on the defensive end. The effort level of Dees adds to his evaluation as a prospect. NAIA programs should give him a strong look.
Cale Savage 2019 Sand Springs Wing (The Ballers)
Savage is a prospect bound likely for the baseball field after high school. However, Savage is one to know just in case he decides to go the basketball route. As a coach’s kid, you can easily see the high basketball IQ decisions he makes benefiting his team. Savage shot the ball well, which opened up his drive to the hoop. He made big plays down the stretch.
Jonathan Buskirk 2019 Regent Prep Guard (Hardwork)
Buskirk is a very strong Guard with a fantastic frame. Throughout the night he made his money driving to the basket using his strength, solid handle, and creative finishes to score effectively. He is going to be a prospect that makes a jump this winter as he has dedicated himself to basketball for his senior year. Buskirk is going to turn some heads at the small college level.
Evan Sadler 2020 Metro Christian Wing (Freeway)
Sadler showed some flashes of brilliance on Tuesday. The way he was able to best impact the game was stretching the floor with his long frame from distance. He also finished well using his length to find openings around the basket. The size and build of Sadler make him a prospect that jumps out to you. He could turn into a small college prospect over the next two years at Metro Christian.
Nathaniel Serna 2020 Collinsville Guard (Hardwork)
Serna is a lightning fast Guard that started the night slow and then went crazy in his second game of the night. He could not be slowed down in the final game of the night leading Hardwork with 13 points. Serna has some potential in the 2020 Class with the quickness he is able to bring on both ends of the floor. With the ball in his hands, he played very unselfishly making the right plays when teammates were open. He is a prospect for small colleges to keep an eye on.
