WCE End of Summer Camp: Top 2021 Performers (Part II)
Santa Ana, Ca. — The West Coast Elite End of Summer Camp at Mater Dei high school featured more than 120 prospects from the classes of 2019-2022.
Here is the second set of class of 2021 standouts from Sunday’s high school portion of the event.
Houston Mallette, Pacifica Christian
Mallette played his freshman season at Salesian in Northern California and is a nice backcourt addition for Pacifica Christian. The 6-foot-2 pushing 6-foot-3 guard showed good feel on the ball, creating for himself or others off the bounce. Mallette does a nice job of using changes of speed to get into the paint and put pressure on the rim.
Bosco guard Lamaj Lewis had his smooth drive game working at the WCE End of Summer Camp.Lamaj Lewis, St. John Bosco
Lewis has such a smooth and effortless feel for the game you sometimes wonder whether he’s playing hard or not. The 6-foot-3 wing is elusive with the ball on the perimeter, blowing by defenders with slight hesitations and deceptive moves with his shoulders. Lewis uses his length well when finishing around the basket and over length.
John Belardi, Loyola
Belardi is your quintessential high motor, game managing type of point guard. The 5-foot-11 sophomore is as tough as they come on both sides of the ball, makes good basketball decisions in half court and transition settings and competes on the defensive end. Belardi has a strong and quick first step that allows him to get by defenders and into the paint where can draw in the defense and dish to open teammates.
Devan Chung, Viewpoint
Chung was one of the quicker players in the gym. The 5-foot-8 point guard is a blur in transition and can change direction without losing speed or balance, making it difficult for defenders to keep him in front. Chung can knock down the open catch-and-shoot 3-point shot.
David Boston III, Millikan
Boston was one of the more consistent 3-point shooters throughout the event. The sophomore has a quick release and deep range on his deep ball and doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off.
