Maryland/DC/VA Summer Stock Boosters: 2021 Wings/Forwards (Part 2)
We spent most of June and July on the road evaluating prospects from the DMV at various events, and now its time to take a look back at what we’ve learned. Here we begin by taking a look at some of the players who’ve helped themselves with consistently strong play over the summer. In this edition we highlight five class of 2021 wings and/or forwards that have done just that.
6’4 SF David Brown | Team Durant/McDonogh (MD)
David Brown immediately caught our eye amongst a very good 15U Team Durant Squad this summer, and we believe he has a chance to make an immediate impact in his first year at McDonogh. He’s a versatile defender with length and nice touch from the middle areas of the floor. Brown has all the tools to be recruited at a high level if he can put it all together and turn out consistent results.
6’5 SF Quincy Allen | New World/Maret (DC)
In his first year of high school ball, Quincy Allen showed his versatility by playing the post position for extended minutes at a time. He showed that he could his own, especially on the defensive end with his range and ability to rebound out of his area. Allen translates to the next level as a wing when considering his ball skills, mobility, and ability to stretch the floor with consistency. We will begin to see him scratch the surface of his true potential as his overall game, and specifically his body, matures.
6’6 PF Terrence Butler | Team Takeover/Bishop McNamara (MD)
Terrence Butler is a flat out mis-match problem in most 1v1 scenarios. The smooth lefty can face up and knock down jumpers with consistency, and has a quick release. Butler can also make a quick move and go by you or score with his back to the basket. A sneaky good athlete in his own right, he will also go up and try to put you on a poster if you aren’t careful. Butler appears to be in line for a breakout sophomore campaign, and is one to keep a close eye on.
6’4 SG Trevor Keels | Team Takeover/Paul VI (VA)
At Hoop Group Team Camp with his team in need of a spark, Trevor Keels came to the rescue. The sturdily built wing showed that he can be aggressive and take over a game down the stretch, and won MVP honors with an electric 29-point performance. Did we mention that at age 14 he is one of the most reliable players on his 16U AAU Team which finished the season ranked top-5 in the country?
6’4 SF Jordan Hawkins | DMV Stags/Gaithersburg (MD)
Jordan Hawkins is part of an impressive rising sophomore class at Gaithersburg. A long and lanky 6-foot-4 wing, he is a knock down perimeter jump shooter from the catch with a nice pull-up game. Hawkins has a frame that looks like it is still filling out, and once it does he will likely be very difficult to contain.
