Maryland/DC/VA Summer Stock Boosters: 2020 Wings/Forwards (Part 2)
We spent most of June and July on the road evaluating prospects from the DMV at various events, and now its time to take a look back at what we’ve learned. Here we begin by taking a look at some of the players who’ve helped themselves with consistently strong play over the summer. In this edition we highlight five class of 2020 wings and/or forwards that have done just that.
6’7 SF Marcellus Avery | The Dream/Life Christian (VA)
Marcellus Avery has consistently been one of the most dominant prospects in his respective division each time we see him compete. The Dream is one of the best 16u teams in this region regardless of shoe affiliation, and the versatile 6-foot-7 wing is a big reason why. Avery is an athletic physical specimen with great touch and an improving skill set. There is certainly no doubt that he has the tools to play the game at a high level.
6’5 SF Jahmal Banks | 6th Man Warriors/Bishop O’Connell (VA)
After recovering from a sports hernia injury that kept him out for much of the summer, Jahmal Banks returned with a vengeance in July. The ambidextrous 6-foot-5 wing exhibits intriguing two-way value that translates to the next level as a result of his blend of size, athleticism, ball skills, toughness, and high basketball IQ.
6’5 SF Brandon Murray | Team Melo/Baltimore Poly (MD)
We saw Brandon Murray compete in various summer leagues and team camps this summer with Poly, and there’s not doubt that he is an immediate impact player with intriguing potential moving forward. He is benefiting from improved fitness, but we’ve always liked his feel, mobility, and skill set. Murray could be a major sleeper as the recruitment of this class moves forward, but he is definitely one to keep an eye on.
6’8 PF Oumar Koureissi | Team Durant/National Christian (MD)
When you consider long-term potential, Oumar Koureissi has a ceiling as high as any prospect on this list. The 6-foot-8 forward moves fluidly and has a nice skill set for his size. Koureissi’s potential will likely not be fully unlocked until he fully grows into his body and continues to polish his skills. A10 level schools are already tracking him, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the rising junior pick up some high major offers soon.
6’6 SF Myles Stute | Team Takeover/Gonzaga (MD)
Myles Stute has been one of the most reliable players on his AAU team, and is starting to make a more consistent impact with Gonzaga as we saw at during Hoop Group Team Camp. The 6-foot-6 wing brings the same high energy approach to every game, and that explains why his recruitment is trending up right now.
