Mills Breaks Out
This time around two years ago, Jordan Shepherd, a scoring guard out of Asheville, NC was making a name for himself on the travel circuit. He would later find a spot at Oklahoma University after a stellar career at Asheville Christian Academy.
Fast forward to now and it is Caleb Mills that is doing the same thing Shepherd did. While killing it this past week at The Under Armour Challenge, Mills picked up offers from ACC programs Clemson and Florida State. He also landed offers from Houston, VCU and Murray State. Phone calls from Texas and St. Louis let Mills know they will be watching over the next two weeks. Wake Forest has been in touch recently and I expect an offer in the coming days.
Caleb MillsCincinnatti was the first high-major program to offer almost 2 months ago and Mick Cronin and staff were three deep at one of his game this week.
Interest has picked up for the smooth shooting guard out of the mountains of WNC because of the lack of depth in the 2019 class overall.
Mills is a player that plays at his own pace, doesn’t get rattled, can really shoot the ball, has a good handle, excels at getting into the paint and finishing plays. He gets to the foul line a lot, he is long, athletic, Smart and a great teammate.
Mills will look to take some visits after the July evaluation period and cut his list which includes nearly 25 offers from programs stretching the Atlantic Coast. His Asheville Christian Academy team plays a strong schedule and expect a lot of coaches to be in the gym getting their shot in on Mills.
His trainer, John Williams of Harlem Globetrotter fame had this to say about Mills, “he is built different, understands the game and is only getting better.”
