Team BBC Summer Jam Fest-Saturday Standouts
Yesterday, we were in the gym for Team BBC’s Summer Jam Fest at Milford Mill High School. In the games that we witnessed, there was number of talented players playing on both the 15U and 16U levels.
Here are some standouts from yesterday’s slate.
Michah Tobias- Take Flight 16U
-The 6-foot-5 forward provided an inside presence for Take Flight on both ends. He finished with seven points, but did a nice job blocking and contesting shots around the rim defensively. Offensively when he caught the ball in the paint, he utilized his size and strength effectively.
Darien Simmons- Take Flight 16U
-Simmons is a natural scorer. Although his team struggled shooting from the field, Simmons consistently created his own shots off the dribble and forced the defense to collapse.
Maurice Smith- Team BBC 17U
-Smith played well on both sides of the floor in their match up against Take Flight. He acted as the floor general in the half court, but was aggressive as a scorer out in transition. Smith also stood out with his willingness to communicate on both ends.
Avion Robinson- Team BBC 17U
-Robinson is the type of player whose defense dictates his offensive game. He was active defensively and as a result, saw plenty of transition opportunities come his way. The 5-foot-11 guard did a good job finishing in the open floor.
Carlos Alexander – Team Thrill 15U
-Alexander may very well have the best vision in the state when it comes to the upcoming freshmen class. Again today, he made it a priority to push the ball in transition every time he could with intentions of creating an open shot for others. The lefty is extremely crafty and has a great feel for the game. The 5-foot-10 guard played in four-straight games between the 15U and 16U teams. He was productive in every outing. Not only getting others involved, but also knocking down shots both off the catch and off the bounce.
Dimitri Ivey- Team McDuffie 15U
-6-foot-2 skilled guard that is always looking to score. Did so from all three levels for his team as they went up against a very good Team Thrill 15U squad. Finished with both hands in transition regardless of being contested.
Antonio Hamlin- Team Thrill 15U
-Hamlin and Alexander will be the two big names of the class of 2022 in the area. Hamlin’s game is already well put together for his age. With a strong build, he utilizes his frame when taking his match up off the dribble to the basket. He is also a knockdown three-point shooter when playing off his teammate’s penetration. Defensively, he anticipated in passing lanes very well.
Martaz Robinson-Team BBC 16U
-It seems like every time we see Robinson in action, he improves. The 6-foot-2 guard scored in well yesterday in their overtime win against Team Thrill. He didn’t hesitate to pull from three after forcing the Thrill defense to rotate with a couple of swing passes. When Robinson has that aggressive mindset, it makes his team that much better. This was evident in overtime when Robinson attacked the lane, forcing the defense to respect his ability to score, which led to him finding a teammate for an open lay up twice to seal the win.
Kai Brooks- Team Thrill 15U
-Brooks had a strong showing yesterday that included a 21-point performance in a win over Team McDuffie. Brooks is a skinny, 5-foot-11 guard who is looking to score every time he gets the ball. When his shot from deep is falling, it’s very difficult to contain him or his team. Brooks nailed four triples in that game and did a nice job of keeping the defense guessing by attacking wild close outs when they were presented.
Jordan Toles- Team Thrill 16U
-Toles is no stranger to us or the national radar for that matter. Ranked as the top safety for football in the class of 2020, Toles’ game on the floor continues to improve as well. His jumpshot is becoming a consistent strength to his game after being an obvious flaw as a freshman. Now, his match up not only needs to close out quickly on drive-and-dish scenarios, they also have to prepare for his ability to drive off the dribble, embrace contact and finish above the rim.
Dominick Carrington- Team Silk 16U
-Carrington had a team-high 17 points in their game against Thrill yesterday and mixed up well offensively. Known for being a sniper from deep, the 5-foot-10 guard finished well in transition and was able to slash through the defense for close looks around the rim.
Caleb Dorsey-Team BBC 16U
-Dorsey is an enforcer for this squad with a big frame at 6-foot-5. However he is a very mobile player who showed ability to lead the break and finish with a soft touch.
