Prospect Spotlight: Jackson Kochendorfer (2019)
Last season, St. Edmond guard Jackson Kochedorfer was one of the state’s most prolific shooters.
You can expect a lot of the same this winter from the 6-foot-2 guard. But he’s more than just a sharpshooter.
“I know that I can shoot the ball well, so I try and spread out the floor as much as possible and get everyone else open. Once I realize the defense is starting to play up on me, then it’s easier for me to find open guys,” said Kochendorfer.
He canned 72 3s last season, and did so at an impressive 43 percent clip. Only one returning guy in Class 1A, Nick Jacobs from Akron-Westfield, made more 3s than Kochendorfer last season.
“Mostly my role last year was to score, we had a couple of seniors who were hustle guys and leaders and got a lot of our rebounds, so I could mostly focus on shooting,” he said.
“I feel like this year, I’m going to have to transition into more of a leadership role, and I’ll have to go inside and get some more rebounds because I’ll be one of the tallest guys on the court.”
Kochendorfer spent his spring playing with St. Edmond in team camps and with his AAU team, AFES 17U. He’ll play some AAU ball this July and hopes to see his currently slow recruitment start to ramp up.
“I do have Briar Cliff recruiting me, that’s about the only school I’ve heard from so far,” said Kochendorfer.
“I’m hoping that coaches realize that I could probably be a good asset to their team, and they start reaching out. As of right now, college basketball is definitely something I’d like to do.”
