Quarterfinals
HERITAGE HALL vs JONES @ 7:00 pm
RIVERSIDE vs OKLAHOMA CENTENNIAL @ 8:30 pm
ATOKA vs SEQUOYAH TAHLEQUAH @ 3:30 pm
LINCOLN CHRISTIAN vs VERDIGRIS @ 2:00 pm
The opening round of State could end up being a bunch of blowouts, but don’t be surprised if we see an upset in the mix. I have Heritage Hall, Oklahoma Centennial, Atoka, and Verdigris advancing to the Semifinals.
The Semifinals would present Oklahoma Centennial vs Heritage Hall and Verdigris vs Atoka both games would be fantastic. Centennial has already knocked off Heritage Hall this year once, but I think Heritage Hall gets some revenge and advance to the finals. In the other Semifinal I could see it going either way. Verdigris advanced to the finals last year. I think there experience will take over and they go on to the finals. It will be a close game!
The Championship game Heritage Hall vs Verdigris would be a rematch of the title game last year. Last year, Heritage Hall won with a Cinderella run. This year Heritage Hall enters as the favorite and I think the Chargers repeat!
Players to Watch
Les Thomas 2017 Heritage Hall Shooting Guard
Thomas is a player with extreme upside for the Chargers. He got stuck in the paint earlier this year, but he has since then moved out to the wing. Thomas has great athleticism and is a streaky shooter.
Bishop Coulter 2016 Atoka Power Forward
Coulter is in the argument for the best year of any big man in the entire state. He is averaging a double-double for Atoka and makes it look easy. He stands about 6’7″ and has received tons of interest from Division II and JUCO schools. Division I LM programs have showed interest as well. Coulter could open some eyes this weekend.
Leaf Payne 2016 Verdigris Shooting Guard
Payne is a freak athlete at the 2. He is not the best jumper shooter, but knows his game and dominates at getting to the rim. Payne has received interest from Division II programs. Last year Payne was just one game away from a gold ball. Now he has the chance to redeem the loss of last season. Expect big things from Payne this weekend.
Brewster Peacock 2017 Verdigris Shooting Guard
Peacock is the most talented player in the tournament this weekend in Class 3A. If you have not seen him you are missing out. Peacock has great range from behind the arc. He is a player who can catch fire in a hurry. The size of Peacock makes him a prospect division I schools will give a close look. Also, don’t be too surprised when Peacock throws down a jam because he can fly.
