-Most Valuable Player-
Michael Bibby, Jr. 6’3″ PG 2016 Shadow Mountain – Bibby finished his high school career with two double-doubles. He frequently gets misclassified as a shooter; however, anyone who played him in the season and in the tournament knows that is far from true. In fact, what makes him such a tough player to play against is his ability to extend the court with his shot and then take advantage of over extended defense. Bibby was the key player in Shadow Mountain winning their second state championship in three years.
-All-Tournament Team-
JJ Rhymes 6’5″ F 2016 Shadow Mountain – The senior forward dominated the first round of play for Shadow with 27 points and continued that strong play throughout the majority of the tournament as he averaged 18 points per game. Rhymes has been on of the most difficult players to guard in Arizona due to his quickness, toughness, and versatility. His abilities are a huge reason that Shadow Mountain was able to win another state title.
Jordan Mccants 5’11″ PG 2016 Agua Fria – Mccants ability to get into the lane made him an absolute monster in the state tournament. Teams struggled game after game to keep him out of the paint due to his relentless attacking style of play. In addition, he plays solid defense and knocks down that all important shots from the line after getting fouled.
Elijah Thomas Elijah Thomas 6'5" | SF Skyline Prep | 2022 AZ 6’5″ F 2016 Sunrise Mountain – Thomas was such a threat throughout his high school career and the tournament because he is able to shoot it from deep and good quickness and strength that allows for him to attack the rim well. Thomas had great help from his teammates in making this upset run to the semifinals; however, without him, none of it was possible.
CJ VanBeekum 6’5″ F/C 2016 Paradise Valley – VanBeekum was consistent throughout the season and the tournament. He had some timely buckets and rebounds in the tournament that Paradise Valley needed to move on and to stay in games. His length and skill set make him a solid college prospect and one of the hardest players to shut down in Arizona.
