KHSAA Basketball season starts officially on October 15th and this season looks to be pretty open. There is so much talent in the bluegrass state right now and this season is shaping up to be a great one. It's time for my annual "Top 5 Preview" where I break down the top 5 teams and college prospects in each region. These are the top 5 college prospects, not the top 5 high school players right now.

Top 5 Teams:

Grayson County - The reigning champions return most of their core from last season and have had a few new faces transfer in over the summer. [player_tooltip player_id='1745592' first='Jack' last='Logsdon'] is the best player in the region and the Gaither brothers are ready for the season after arriving at Grayson last season. The Cougars have a lot of weapons on the roster.

Apollo - Last season's regional semifinal run was a learning experience for the Eagles and they should be primed for a potential regional title run. Coach Tinsley has added 2 big wings over the last 2 summers that should help counteract the size of Grayson County. [player_tooltip player_id='2122448' first='Landon' last='Henning'] anchors the paint and is one of the best shot blockers in the state.

Owensboro Catholic - Catholic is likely to start slow, considering they are likely to be missing multiple starters who are stars on the football field too. By the time February rolls around, the Aces should be peaking. Dre'Mail Carothers is an all region talent and [player_tooltip player_id='2381873' first='Zander' last='Reisz'] has developed into a legitimate scholarship level prospect over the summer. Apollo transfer [player_tooltip player_id='2843314' first='Sam' last='Butterworth'] is a big X factor in the 9th district and 3rd region title races.

Daviess County - The Panthers took a big hit from graduation but they have a Sophomore class ready to step up and a big transfer in [player_tooltip player_id='2381874' first='Jonah' last='Brown']. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2780946' first='Aidan' last='West'] could be the real deal and Brown had a really strong summer of AAU. It remains to be seen who will play point guard with Jonathan Moss gone but the cupboard is not bare.

Ohio County - A total toss up in this spot. There are multiple teams who can slide into the 5th spot. Ohio County has a couple of new Puerto Rican transfers and the entire team is a relative unknown. I'll go with the mystery team who went 23-7 last season and added two potentially solid players with size.

Top 5 College Prospects:

[player_tooltip player_id='1745592' first='Jack' last='Logsdon'], Grayson County - A WKU commit, Logsdon was one of the best players in the region last season and continues to improve. Look for Grayson to go as far as Jack can take them.

[player_tooltip player_id='2780946' first='Aidan' last='West'], Daviess County - This is a pivotal time in West's development. With his size and skill, Aidan could be a big time D1 recruit in the 2029 class. He's got to get more athletic but 6'7" guards are rare and Aidan is going to be an issue for opposing teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='2122448' first='Landon' last='Henning'], Apollo - In a class full of kids who are inconsistent, you always know what you're getting with Landon. An elite shot blocker and a good two handed rebounder, Henning has some solid offensive skills and is the tallest prospect in the region.

[player_tooltip player_id='3786516' first='Charlie' last='Gaither'], Grayson County - Gaither is a complete wildcard. He's grown to having Center size at 6'9" and his coordination is catching up. With his size and skill, Charlie could be a D1 recruit. He's definitely a name to keep an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id='2960479' first='Carlos' last='Cruz'], Apollo - Cruz arrived at Apollo last season and had a strong year. Now in his second season of Kentucky basketball, the Puerto Rican import could be a candidate to break out for the Eagles. If he can elevate his game, Apollo is capable of winning the third region.

Most Likely Mr. Basketball Finalist:

[player_tooltip player_id='1745592' first='Jack' last='Logsdon'], Grayson County
