Prospect Spotlight: Roy Clarke, Jr. (2019)
LOS ANGELES, CA— The Pathfinders were a powerhouse in the 1990’s as former Head Coach Sam Sullivan had a plethora of talented cagers in Michael Tate, Chris Ford, Tommie Davis, and Todd Whitehead. However, the cupboard has been dearth of talent for quite sometime—but that is coming to an end.
At the recent Maranatha Block Party, Fremont showcased a line-up that was littered with length and athleticism with some skill sprinkled in there as well. The catalyst of this squad was fast-rising senior Roy Clarke, Jr.
Fremont High point guard Roy Clarke, Jr. has been one of the biggest surprises of the summer.Clarke Jr. is a prototypical wing-type with long arms, a nice combination of speed and quickness, and he is skilled. At the Maranatha Tournament he excelled playing the 1 and the 2.
He blew by numerous defenders and either exploded to the rim for the finish or snapped a pass—sometimes with the left-hand—to an open shooter.
Despite having the physical tools and an evolving skill set, college interest has been non-existent. “ I haven’t received any offers or phone calls for that matter in terms of playing at the next level,” notes Clark Jr.
During the spring he was playing for the NIKE sponsored Phoenix Phamily, but with Marvin Bagley III signing with Puma, he should be a free agent for the summer basketball circuit.
