KAMO Shootout: Stock Risers (Point Guards)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Hosted by Shawnee Mission East, the annual KaMo Shootout has earned a reputation as one of the midwest’s premier summer events for high school teams.
This event tipped off on Friday and wrapped up on Sunday with championship brackets being played. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers on Saturday.
11 — Nolan Ford, 6’0, PG, 2019, Basehor-Linwood (Kan.)
Also a standout on the football field, Ford brings a unique toughness to the court, able to handle the point, defend, rebound and put points on the board when needed. He is a strong guard that is a tough, hard-nosed defender who doesn’t back down from a challenge.
1-Alan Watson, PG, 5’9, 2019, Bonner Springs (Kan.)
Watson is a creative point guard who always finds a basket. He plays well off the ball but does his best when he’s running the show. He can shake off defenders and take the ball to the basket. He gets his floater off before defenses have time to react and he can pass it out for an easy assist. Watson is also a great 3-point shooter, someone comfortable in letting it fly several feet behind the line. A player t keep your eyes on.
10 — Elijah Williams, 6’2, PG, 2019, Olathe North (Kan.)
Williams has put together a strong spring on the grassroots circuit with KC Team Rush and showed his toughness and all-around game at KaMo in Overland Park. He is a tough, no-nonsense defender and brings intensity to the floor any time he is on the court. Williams can also handle the ball and play either guard position and is capable of running the point, distributing the ball and can knock down outside shots as well.
4 — TJ Williams-Bey, 6’3, PG, 2019, Aquinas (Kan.)
Williams-Bey came in a little late on Saturday after taking the ACT, but he showed a lot of potential once he got on the floor. He has a long, rangy frame and brings good athleticism and a well-rounded skill set to the floor. He can handle it and create his own shot and likes to get to the basket where he uses good agility to finish tough chances in the paint.
