I scouted a 15U pool pay game in which the Kansas Players knocked off J-Sizzle, a club team from Minnesota, 47-37.
Here is a look at five prospects who impressed me with their play on a club roster built with players from Wichita area schools. Each of these prospects in the Kansas Class of 2027.
Jordan Maingu Jordan Maingu 6'3" | CG Kapaun Mt Carmel | 2027 KS , 6’1”, F, Kapaun Mt. Carmel
Maingu’s game is very impressive. The physical forward finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and scored nine points. He beat taller players in the J-Sizzle frontcourt with his speed. This guy wants to rebound and aggressively crashes the boards. He is a workhorse on both ends of the floor and had a nice game from the free throw line, shooting 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Oliver Selmon Oliver Selmon 6'3" | SG The Independent School | 2027 KS , 6’3”, F, The Independent School
Selmon was the biggest surprise of the day. He was not the fastest or longest player on the court, and was not even in the starting lineup. Yet, this young man is a baller. He understands how to create space between defenders and is a three-level scorer. Selmon finished with a game-high 17 points and added four rebounds. His basketball IQ is high. Selmon shot 5-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Luke Henderson Luke Henderson 5'10" | PG The Independent School | 2027 KS , 5’10”, G, The Independent School
Henderson is a ball-handling guard with a scary good crossover. He loves to take the ball to the rim, but is willing to shoot jumpers. He has explosive speed and arguably was the quickest player I saw on Saturday. He scored six points and understands when to slow or speed up the pace of play.
Jayvon Caldwell, 5’10”, G/F, Wichita Heights
Caldwell could easily get ignored in this lineup, but the savvy observer will notice he is a key cog on this team. He has the “will” to rebound and can’t beat up on a team that is not disciplined at boxing out. He has a physical frame for being so young and chipped in two points to the team’s total.
Avant Riley Avant Riley 5'9" Derby | 2027 KS , 5’9”, CG, Derby,
Riley is a versatile athlete who can play multiple positions. He has a nice jump shot but really likes to penetrate against the defense. He hit one 3-point basket on his way to scoring eight points in the contest. Like the other prospects on this team he plays excellent pressure defense.
