I scouted a 15U pool pay game in which J-Sizzle Adidas Gold 2027 was defeated by the Kansas Players 47-37. I was shocked by the final outcome as J-Sizzle passed the eye test and I guessed they would run the Kansas Players off the court. However, like they say, games are played on courts and not on paper.
Here is a look at five athletes I was impressed with.
Demandre Frierson-Hollie, 6’5”, F, Cretin-Derham Hall
Frierson-Hollie was my favorite player of the day and reminded me of former North Carolina Tar Heel J.R. Reid. Like Reid, he is a physical specimen and built like a linebacker. He scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. When he learns to block out and realizes how strong he is, he will become a legit “board monster.” Frierson-Hollie has court vision and can lead an inside-out game as a passer. He would touch the ball every time down the court on a team I coached.
Ahmed Nur Ahmed Nur 6'7" | SF Hopkins | 2027 MN , 6’6”, F/C, Hopkins
Nur was a frustrating prospect to watch. He is all arms and legs and can reach the sky. However, he is a big man who likes to shoot from deep. He did not have a good shooting day and seemed hesitant to post-up inside. He should have worked over a smaller frontcourt in the game I watched. Nur plays hard, hustles, and is a smart player, but he needs to get stronger, and meaner, and improve his play in the paint. Nur finished with six rebounds, two points, and one steal.
Aiden Green, 6’1”, CG, West Fargo Horace (North Dakota)
Green is not as tall as Nur, but plays more physical. He reminds me of a young Dennis Rodman. He is lanky, but hesitant to look to score. He will rebound with the best of them and was the most skilled post in terms of locating a body and blocking it out. Green scored two points and finished with two rebounds.
Conner Watts Conner Watts 5'9" | PG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2027 State MN , 5’11”, PG, Benilde-St. Margaret’s
Watts looks like a prototypical point guard. He is a solid ball-handler and plays with poise. He does not get rattled in high pressure situations. I would like to seem look to score more, but having said that he is a great passer and has an unselfish game. He finished with three points and three steals in the loss.
Milton Nuah Milton Nuah 6'1" | SG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2027 State MN , 5’11”, SF, Benilde-St. Margaret’s
Nuah is a quiet assassin and the type of player every coach wants. Someone who will bring his lunchpale to the court and do the dirty work for a team. He has a solid frame and the body of a fullback or inside linebacker on a football field. He scored five points and grabbed three rebounds.
