Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam: Kyler's Player Notebook Part 1

One of the top AAU events of the spring took place over this past weekend with the 2026 Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam. Prep Hoops Indiana had boots on the ground all weekend long and we were able to check out some of the top prospects and teams from the state when it comes to the grassroots programs. As we start to recap all the players that we had a chance to get eyes on, here is part 1 of 5 of my player standouts and notebook.    The very first prospect that stood out to me on Saturday was an out-of-state small forward [player_tooltip player_id='2276971' first='Seth' last='Hahnenberg'] from Michigan. He is running with [program_tooltip program_id='2400000' first='Indiana' last='Elite Team Indiana'] 2027 and he may be the most impressive prospect on the roster. Such a fluid player and physical bucket getter, he also had some of the best baseline work I have seen out of high school prospect in such a long time. Lot of raw potential.     One of the top prospects in the state that I had a chance to get eyes on over the weekend was [player_tooltip player_id='2468939' first='DJ' last='Nash'] out of Kokomo HS. Nash is running with [program_tooltip program_id='2076927' first='Indy' last='Heat'] 16U and was one of their better players off the bench. He is a smooth guard/wing that plays at a great pace and never gets sped up. Is a smooth three-pointer shooter, as well.     [player_tooltip player_id='2425772' first='Tyler' last='Renn'] is one of the few actual in-state players for Indiana Elite 17U and is easily one of the more aggressive players, as well. Super tough, wide-framed guard that did a great job attacking the defense in the lane and getting to the basket very well. He is a well-rounded player with length in the backcourt and plays with such a high motor on both ends of the floor. Has not even scratched the surface of what he will end up becoming.     A player that stood out to me early Saturday is an under-the-radar prospect out of Elkhart High School. When watching [program_tooltip program_id='2471005' first='Legacy' last='Ice Elite'] 17U, they have multiple players that can hoop but the one that stood out to me the most was [player_tooltip player_id='2426066' first='Samarcus' last='Gipson']. First time I have seen Gipson play and really loved his raw athleticism and just overall power around the past. At one point, it felt like he scored three-straight buckets around the basket for [program_tooltip program_id='2471005' first='Legacy' last='Ice Elite'] 17u.     I got a chance to watch Team Tradition 17U late afternoon on Saturday and a few of their players stood out to me, one of them being [player_tooltip player_id='2140389' first='Jaxon' last='McKain'] of Boonville HS. A player that is likely a guard long term, McKain played more forward it felt like and his skill and pure aggressiveness helped him a ton against the defense. McKain just player super hard on the floor with a high motor and is not afraid to go at the defensive contact. Can score at the rim and stretch it a bit, as well.
