After a successful freshman campaign at Ben L. Smith, Cannon adds more size, versatility and length to the Bengals. Standing 6’8 (and still growing), Nick will provide elite outside shooting and secondary playmaking for a loaded Greensboro Day team. Over the last handful of years, freshmen barely see the floor at Ben L. Smith. Well, Nick not only saw the floor but started and produced all year long. That success bled over to Team CP3 where he teamed up with Grant Duggins and formed one of the best duos on the EYBL 15u circuit.

Coach Johnson had tremendous praise for Cannon and his willingness to work and prove himself. He told me that Nick never asked about playing time or anything like that, rather focusing on what he needs to do to get better and help the team. High praise for one of the best young prospects in the country. Role wise, Nick will be playing more of how he was for Team CP3. He’ll be tasked with knocking down open shots, rebounding at a high level and being a lockdown defender. All are things he told me he’s excited to build on for this upcoming season.

After being a key contributor for Ben L. Smith after their state championship run, Nick really made headlines as a key contributor for Team CP3 EYBL. He put together a summer that likely separated him from most freshmen in the state. Recently, he made the move to Greensboro Day where he will reclassify to the class of 2030 and instantly becomes what many believe to be the best in the state and a premier prospect in the country. All the tools you want in a high-level wing, Nick possesses. At 6’8, the two-way upside is unlike many prospects you’ll see in the 2030 class. Offensively he can guard every position while being multi-faceted on offense.

More with less is his strength, as during his Ben L. Smith tenure, he was utilized more as a spot up shooter and lock down defender. During the summer he was able to show he had way more to his game. In certain situations, he was used as a point forward, initiating offense, while in other situations he was able to come off screens to get downhill. In transition he’s especially dangerous because of his versatility. Whether it’s going coast to coast after grabbing a rebound or running the lane hard for a dunk (or spot up three), Nick excels in any situation. In a loaded 2030 class, Nick has a chance to be nationally ranked by this time next year.

My Day 2 note was simple:

Transition threat. Great positional size. Can also handle the ball.

That combination stood out because transition is where size and skill can really become a problem.

If Cannon gets the ball ahead of the defense, his positional size gives him an advantage. But he’s not limited to simply running the floor. He can also handle the ball and initiate, which gives him more ways to get involved.

Boog’s Take: Cannon is interesting because you don’t necessarily have to put the ball in his hands every possession for him to impact the game. But when he does get it, he has enough handle to make something happen. That’s the type of versatility I’m watching as he continues to develop.

At 6-foot-7, Cannon immediately stands out because of his physical profile, but his value comes from how he moves and operates. He has the size to play bigger while showing enough perimeter ability to keep defenders from simply playing him as a traditional big.

The projection is what makes him interesting. If his handle, shooting and decision-making continue to come along, Cannon has the tools to become a matchup problem on both ends.

Cannon continues to show his value for this Team CP3 15u group as a guy that can really make plays at both ends of the floor as he possesses the ability to hit outside shots along with providing consistent production in other areas at his size. Cannon averaged 12.0 Points, 5.8 Rebounds, 0.8 Steals, and 0.6 Blocks per game while shooting 44% from deep for Peach Jam. Cannon possesses an incredibly strong foundation in terms of skill and physical tools. As he continues to gain valuable experience and develop his ability to make plays for others, there’s no doubt he’ll turn into a very special prospect.

Cannon was the star of the very first game we took in at Session IV and proved to be one of the best spot shooters at the 15u level. The long, wiry 6-foot-7 wing connected on seven triples on eight attempts with his combination of size, fluid and high release and impeccable shot selection led to his efficiency. Cannon flashed deep range, multiple spot consistency and repeatable shooting mechanics.

Cannon is another high level explosive athlete in this 2029 class that also possesses a really strong foundational skill level. He played a key role on a Ben L Smith team that had a ton of talent on it with his impact shining as an energetic athlete who can make some outside shots. He’s continuing to provide real production for Team CP3 15u EYBL with his blend of scoring and rebounding being a huge reason behind this group’s 8-0 start on the circuit. Cannon’s experience and production in these high level games along with his long term upside are a huge reason why he’s considered one of the premier prospects in this class. He’ll certainly have some big above the rim highlights over the course of his career.

Cannon is another guy continuing to showcase his valuable set of skills with this Team CP3 EYBL 15u group as a versatile inside/out wing with the ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor. As his team went 4-0, Cannon averaged 10.0 Points, 5.3 Rebounds, 1.0 Assist, and 0.5 Steals per game on 47/31/88 shooting splits. The highlight of the weekend for Cannon was an 18 Point performance vs Nightrydas where he went 3-6 from beyond the arc. At 6’6″ Cannon can create offense for himself off the bounce but does a great job at putting himself in the right spot off the ball and playing with an understanding of what his team needs in that moment. Another highly talented wing in this stacked NC 2029 class.

Cannon continued to showcase his all around game with Team CP3 15u EYBL as he helped guide his team to a 4-0 weekend. Cannon averaged 9.0 Points, 6.3 Rebounds, and 1.5 Assists per game on 38/38/58 shooting splits for session one. Cannon’s length, athleticism, and outside touch are the calling cards in his game at this point and continues to progress in his off the bounce game in the half-court. To be as well rounded as he is with the physical gifts he possesses at this stage are really impressive and worth noting as he’s a prospect to watch closely moving forward. Cannon’s work with Ben L Smith as a freshman and early returns from EYBL session one with CP3 are certainly a sign of things to come.

Cannon had a really strong weekend with his Team CP3 15u EYBL group at The Phenom Hoops Grassroots TOC in Rock Hill this past weekend. Cannon helped lead his team to an unblemished weekend and shined in the process with his blend of positional size + ability to make plays on full display. Cannon is a really high level athlete at the wing for a rising sophomore. Cannon is a very aggressive downhill driver and finisher at the rim. He attacks closeouts with real purpose as he looks to finish above the rim when given the opportunity. Cannon is a capable outside shooter, and even showed the ability to play out of ball screens this high school season. There’s no doubt that he’s a player to monitor closely as the travel season gets into full swing mode here soon.
