16U First Team All Grassroots (Spring Edition)
Based on performance and recruiting stock rising, the following five players have distinguished themselves as First Team All Grassroots for the spring.
PG – Matt Allocco (2020), 6’3”, C2K Elite / Hilliard Bradley
PG – Garvin Clarke (2020), 6’0”, All Ohio Rebels / Euclid
G – Zeb Jackson (2020), 6’3” G, C2K Elite / Maumee Valley
G – Zach Huffman (2020), 6’4” G, Ohio Basketball Club / St. Edward
W – VonCameron Davis (2020), 6’4”, C2K Elite / Walnut Ridge
– Allocco deserves a lot of credit for C2K’s no. 1 spot in the Grassroots Team Rankings. He’s steered their proverbial ship by communicating, protecting the ball, and delivering timely passes. As far as physical tools, Allocco’s length and quickness allow him to be a top notch finisher and on-ball defender. He’s second in the UAA 16U circuit in assists at 5.5 per game.
The Hilliard Bradley point guard added MAC offers from Kent State, Akron, and Toledo this spring.
– Although Clarke has spent a couple circuit weekends with All Ohio Red, his value is most pronounced when he’s playing with the Rebels. He’s able to take a team from above average to elite whenever he’s on the floor. The ambidextrous finisher controls pace and has a knack for putting the finishing touches on close games. Clarke’s newfound off the dribble 3-point shooting ability brings another dimension to his already dynamic scoring ability.
– Jackson is the unofficial spring MVP in Ohio. He racked up offers from Ohio State, Illinois, Xavier, and Butler in the last couple of months. On the UAA circuit, he leads the entire 16U age group in assist to turnover ratio, which speaks to his underrated IQ and feel for the game. More than anything though, Jackson has been putting a ton of pressure on the defense as a scorer. He has a twitchy handle is consistently knocking down jumpers after his deadly crossover.
– In just three weekends of play, St. Edward combo guard Huffman has established himself as the guy for OBC. He has hovered around 20 points per game during adidas Gauntlet Gold action, where his team managed to be 4-4 despite injuries and lack of depth. Huffman is a no nonsense straight-line driver with the ability to finish in traffic. Xavier offered this spring.
– After leading the Columbus City League at 22.9 points per game, according to 270 Hoops, Davis has turned around and scored the ball from inside and out for C2K. He is tied for seventh during UAA play in points at 15.6 a game. Meanwhile, Davis also led the team in rebounds at 7.3, good enough for seventh in the country at the UAA. The combo forward is scoring it efficiently with his uncanny ability to finish in traffic off his spin move and improved 3-point stroke.
Davis added offers from James Madison, Kent State, and Toledo this spring.
