New readers: Use code Proia30

I watched some high-level basketball in PG County and Anne Arundel County to see established stars and spotted some new names along the way. Rotations and minutes are allotted by the impact that a prospect has on a basketball game. In this article we will touch on the best stat sheet-stuffing guards that I saw last week. Let's dive in!

32p 10r 6a 5s 2b vs Glen Burnie

-McDuffie didn't have his usual shooting touch from the perimeter but it didn't matter, his two-way impact on Senior Night was palpable throughout the game. He collected steals on and off the ball to initiate the break for his team while calling his own number when he had the 1 on 1 matchup in space. The scoring versatility was on display as he knocked down a long stepback 2 in transition, had several dunks in transition off lobs and drives to the rim, ripped through to hit the extension layup, then knocked down B2B 3s to start the 2H while collecting 3 steals and two assists in the 3Q alone to break the game open. His positional size and ability to play on or off the ball as a connector for his team plays a big role in their team success.

11p 4r 1a 1 charge drawn vs Glen Burnie

-Oxendine came off the bench and had a huge personal 11-4 run to end the 1H on a strong note for his team. He rebounded a FT and hit the reverse layup before his opponent could react, came up with a big O board in traffic and got his opponent in the air to finish through the contact for an AND1 bucket, hit his matchup with an up fake step through into the inside hand lay, and had a nice assist over the top to his big in the short roll for a big-time dunk. His play off the bench gives his team a nice change of pace guard that guard up a few positions while filling up the stat sheet with his versatile play

12p 6r 4a vs Gwynn Park

-Ward is putting it together after another growth spurt has pushed him to 6'5 and he has continued to prove his value as a knockdown perimeter shooter. In this game Ward hit two wing 3s off of good ball movement from his team, threw a nice assist over the top to his big, threw a well-placed alley oop lob to a teammate at the rim from the 3 point line, and closed out several possessions with key defensive rebounds. His improved confidence putting the ball on the floor to create for others in the half court or push the pace in transition raises his floor as a prospect as he continues to fill out his game.

12p 7r 5a vs Gwynn Park

-Ashe's play continues to impress as a point guard that darts through the defense with relative ease to score at the rim or create for one of his teammates. Ashe started things off with a face up long 2, got two feet in the paint to drop off to his big for dunk, threw some beautiful alley oops in transition, showed the improved hops when he drove down the lane and punched with 1 hand, and had a key slashing bucket straight down the middle to preserve a 2-possession lead for the Lions. His feel as a point guard that pushes the pace in transition continues to improve with each viewing as he continues to grow as a facilitator that can also call his own number.

13p 5a 3r 3b 2s vs Largo

-Strickland has taken some nice strides this season in a key role for Gwynn Park in the county as a combo guard that can do a little bit of everything. Strickland had a baseline drive and crosscourt kick for 3, did a good job of playing physical defense on opposing guards to force tie-ups and misses around the rim, collected a steal and got the leak out dunk, executed a smooth blow-by crossover from the wing to get downhill and hit the running floater with left, scored on a run-out euro lay in between two defenders, blocked a 3, and snagged a defensive rebound then hit a teammate with a well-placed baseball pass over the top in transition to teammate late in the 4Q. His ability to slide up or down in the lineup depending on rotations gives Coach Spencer some vital flexibility as the Yellow Jackets gear up for a playoff run.
