Evans Begins Live Period With a Bang
Wisconsin’s 2019 class hasn’t exactly been categorized as deep with talent, but this spring, a number of prospects are beginning to rise and strengthen the group. One of those players, Ace Evans (Martin Luther) falls into that category.
Evans began the spring evaluation period by averaging 19.0 points per game on 58.8 percent shooting for the Wisconsin Shooters during Session 1 of the NY2LA Association. His 19.0 ppg currently ranks second in the league.
“I showed I can compete with anybody out there on the court,” Evans told Prep Hoops Wisconsin.
As a junior, Evans averaged 14.4 points per game for Martin Luther, who went 21-4 and finished second in a top heavy Metro Classic Conference. Part of a team that features two other top 15 ranked prospects in the Badger State, Trequan Carrington and Xzavier Jones, Evans has started to stand on his own as a prospect.
“It’s been good,” he said. “It’s something I’ve been waiting on. I see all these big players and I just want to be up there with them.”
Evans said Division 2 Winona State has been showing the most interest thus far.
“They text me often,” he said. “They’re telling me to keep up the good work in school, making sure everything is good there. Just keep working hard on the court. They like how I attack and I can lock down as a defender.”
Division 1 programs Drake and UW-Milwaukee are also keeping tabs on Evans this spring.
“Milwaukee, I haven’t talked to them, but they come to games,” said Evans. “Drake texts a lot and say they’re going to be seeing me during the live period.”
Evans said he’s being recruited as a combo guard at the next level. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound junior remains is in no rush with his recruitment.
“I want a school that I feel comfortable with,” he said. “Comfortable with the coaches and somewhere I can play.”
