2019 Rankings Update: Stock Risers (Part II)
The latest junior class rankings dropped Wednesday night and there was plenty of movement, both up and down, based on the performance of the 2019 prospects throughout their high school season.
It’s always interesting to take a closer look at the players who jumped up in the rankings and the reasons why they did. Devin Ugland has all the latest information on those players in this second Stock Risers piece.
Anthony Holland, Riverside Notre Dame
Holland had a breakout year for the Titans, leading them in scoring at better than 18 points per game, leading the team to a CIF Southern Section Division 3A title and an appearance in the CIF State Division III championship game which is why he’s up to No. 33. Holland, who had been a guy that relied on his physicality to score, made huge strides as a 3-point shooter this season, knocking down 88 on the year at a 45 percent clip.
Jarred Hyder, Cajon
Hyder jumps to No. 34 from the mid-40’s because of his all-around offensive production on the year. The 6-foot-3 guard displayed improved touch from 3-point range and was consistent from the mid-range level as he always has been. Hyder, who helped Cajon to 26 wins, has good size and length for his position and is one of the more underrated off-guards in Southern California.
Cajon’s Jarred Hyder showcased his three level scoring ability all season for the Cowboys.Tory San Antonio, Rancho Verde
San Antonio moves into the top 35 (No. 35) after being a relatively unknown prospect entering his junior season. The 6-foot-3 wing is of the athletic slasher mold with good length and is a crafty finisher around the basket. San Antonio, with his length and lateral mobility, has a ton of defensive potential at the next level and his underrated passing helped Rancho Verde to 23 wins this past season, including an upset of Santa Margarita in the Division I state playoffs.
Dajour Lewis, Palmdale Knight
Lewis is another “sleeper” type of prospect playing out in the under-covered High Desert of California. The No. 36-ranked player earned his way into the top 40 by leading Knight to a 26-7 season, including a trip to the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA championship game where they fell to Crean Lutheran in double overtime. Lewis has gone from an “intriguing” prospect who showed flashes of brilliance to a guy who produced consistently throughout the year. The rangy 6-5 wing has inside-out ability and stretches the floor to 3-point range.
Coree Joseph, Diamond Ranch
Joseph enters the 2019 rankings at No. 46 because of the fact that he’s one of the best true point guards in Southern California and he was the driving force behind one of the biggest program turnarounds in all of SoCal. Diamond Ranch won 21 games this past season just a year removed from a four-win season. Joseph plays with great pace, vision, composure and is always looking to get teammates involved with the pass.
