Recruiting Report: Ziggy Reid (2019)
A year removed from winning the MIAA B Conference championship, St. Paul’s finished with a 14-11 overall record in 2017-18. Repeating in any league is a very difficult thing to do. Pair that with the Crusaders having a rough time clicking fully as a team, and it’s easy to fall behind. Nonetheless, there were many successes that occurred. One of which is the continued development of 2019 wing Ziggy Reid.
The 6-foot-5 junior averaged 18 points on 52 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three while grabbing eight rebounds per game. Reid was the primary option offensively and despite their record, helped guide them to the conference semifinals where they lost to Severn.
“I shot the ball a lot better,” said Reid on his improvements from this past season. “My athleticism has improved, which helped me grab three or four offensive rebounds per game and helped me get quicker overall on the court.”
With the assistance of St. Paul’s assistant coach Jeremy Mellady, Reid has completely transformed his body from his sophomore season by losing over 20 pounds. This offseason, the workouts will only get more intense with Mellady as well as competing on the UAA Circuit with Team Thrill’s 17U team.
“I want to continue to work on my conditioning and stay in shape,” Reid told Prep Hoops. “Just continuing to expand my game and help the program win.”
Reid, who currently holds a 3.0 GPA, holds zero offers but is garnering interest from Temple, UMBC, Denver, Radford and Loyola (MD).
Ziggy Reid is ranked by Prep Hoops as the No. 29 prospect in his class. To see the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2019 class, click here.
