Class 5A Standouts
The first day of the Class 5A State Tournament featured multiple standouts. Prep Hoops breaks down the standouts from the opening round!
Kevin Farmer 2018 Lawton Ike Forward
Farmer had himself a day scoring a game-high 19 points. He was 7-14 from the floor and added 10 rebounds. What makes Farmer standout is his ability to do whatever the team needs him to do at the Forward spot. He is a versatile Forward with sneaky athleticism.
Antonio Gordon 2019 Lawton Ike Post
Gordon got off to a slow start for Lawton Ike. As the game progressed Gordon found his rhythm in the paint ending the contest with 24 points and 10 rebounds. He has easily been the most improved player in Oklahoma this year. Gordon is projected to the NCAA Division I Mid Major level.
Andrew Keathley 2019 Coweta Post
Keathley had a solid outing scoring 13 points with 6 rebounds. In a low scoring game, Keathley provided Coweta with a low post presence on both ends of the floor. He will be an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on over this summer for small colleges.
Jason Taylor 2018 Carl Albert Wing
Taylor has signed to play football at Oklahoma State. Before his basketball career was over he made sure to do everything he could to help Carl Albert win. Taylor shot 4-5 from three-point range finishing with 18 points on the night.
Trey Hopkins 2018 Carl Albert Wing
Hopkins had his best performance of the season on Thursday night finishing with 30 points and 5 rebounds. He shot the ball lights out from three-point range netting 7-13. Seattle has landed a steal by landing Hopkins who appears to be a perfect fit.
Mason Harrell 2018 Carl Albert Point Guard
Harrell finished his great high school career with a phenomenal game of 23 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds. He left everything he had on the floor. Earlier in the day, Harrell was named the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year that night he showed why. Harrell projects to the NCAA Division I Low Major level.
Seth Hurd 2019 Booker T. Washington Post
Hurd was clearly a huge part of the gameplan for the Hornets on Friday. They fed Hurd in the paint for the mismatch on the block. Hurd finished with one of the best stat lines of the day in the state: 8-10 shooting for 24 points and 11 rebounds. When the Hornets needed a bucket Hurd came up huge. The recruitment interest of Hurd should grow this summer. He already has a few NCAA Division I Low Major offers.
Bryce Thompson 2020 Booker T. Washington Wing
Thompson has been known by Prep Hoops for quite some time. I think last night was the beginning of the state of Oklahoma getting acquainted with the talents of Thompson. He scored a team-high 26 points on 9-16 shooting from the floor and 5-8 from the three-point line. Thompson is the most talented player in the state of Oklahoma regardless of Class.
Trey Phipps 2020 Booker T. Washington Guard
Phipps was running the fast break had an opportunity with the lane to the basket open and pulled up cashing in from three points from behind the arc. That play describes the supreme confidence Phipps brings the floor. Phipps is one of the most exciting players to watch with his deep three-point range. He is projected to the NCAA Divison I Mid Major level.
CJ Rice 2019 Northwest Classen Point Guard
Rice was super productive scoring the ball at efficiently. Small colleges will love Rice because he impacts the game in so many different ways. He finished with five rebounds and six assists to along his nine points. Rice is the definition of a stat sheet stuffer.
Da’Lin Wiggins 2019 Northwest Classen Wing
Wiggins had himself a day to start his state tournament experience. Typically when it is your first time on a huge stage like the state tournament players can be passive, Wiggins was having none of that. He has turned the corner this year and is starting to look like a possible NCAA Division I recruit.
Ryan Gendron 2018 Bishop Kelley Guard
Gendron did not shoot the ball well but found ways to do everything he could to help his team win. At the end of the game, Gendron ended with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Grendron is headed to play NCAA Division I basketball at Oklahoma State next year.
Zach Coffman 2018 Bishop Kelley Point Guard
Coffman had a good outing scoring 13 points on 5-9 shooting. Bishop Kelley used him to command the Point and as a spot-up shooter. Coffman is a good three-point shooter with range.
Keylan Boone 2019 Tulsa Memorial Wing
Boone led Tulsa Memorial with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He has turned the corner this year with a great scoring outburst. The aggressiveness of Boone mixed with his skill set has him dominating Class 5A on the Wing. Boone projects to the NCAA Division I High Major level.
Kalib Boone 2019 Tulsa Memorial Post
Boone put on a blocking clinic ending the game with 7 blocks. The length of Boone makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing teams. Offensively, Boone dominated the paint with a very productive 15 points on 6-7 shooting. Tulsa Memorial will be hard to beat with the way Boone is bringing it in the paint. Boone projects to the NCAA Division I High Major level.
Shemar Walker 2018 Tulsa Memorial Point Guard
Thursday Walker showed the state what makes him so good at the Point. He was very efficient shooting 5-10 for 15 points. What separates Walker is his ability to control the pace of the game. Tulsa Memorial under the leadership of Walker has had such great success in large part due to all of his intangibles. Anytime as a team, you have a player at the Point that you can trust to run the team it takes your team to another level. Walker will be a good small college player.
Demontreal Crutchfield 2020 Del City Guard
Crutchfield shot the ball lights out for the Eagles shooting 5-7 from three-point range. Some players get timid the first time they enter a stage as big as the state tournament Crutchfield was ready to go from the tip. He has really shown great improvement over this high school basketball season. The hard work he has put in is paying off. Small colleges this is a guy you want on your radar early.
Nate Goodlow 2020 Del City Guard
Goodlow got off to a slow start for the Eagles at the Mabee Center. Once he found his three-point shot, Goodlow settled down and got into a rhythm. He totaled 16 points in the tough loss. Del City will be back for years to come with Goodlow playing a very key role.
