The Talent: Owasso vs Norman
In the regional championship game between Owasso and Norman, the Rams dominated from the opening tip. They took a commanding lead after one quarter of play and never looked back. They led by as many as 30 throughout the game as Owasso could not seem to miss and Norman could not seem to make anything. Owasso controlled the entire game as they advanced with a 74-49
Team Effort
Owasso proved tonight that they are a legitimate team that can compete with anyone. Throughout the season Owasso has beaten some talented teams and people still overlooked them, but after this performance the Rams are set up for success. They have built this success under their first year head coach who has preached teamwork. No Owasso player is bigger than the team and it showed as three Owasso players had 18 or more points on the night. The Rams space out their scoring and do not rely on any one player. They have a team approach and it is working for them as they inch closer to the state tournament.
Josh Proctor 2018 Owasso Guard
Proctor has been unbelievable for the Rams in the past few weeks. He has shaken off any rust from his injury and is playing his best basketball at the right time. Proctor is going to be a NCAA Division I athlete next year on the football side but that does not stop him from showing off his basketball skills. He has proven that he is difficult to guard and teams are having a tough time stopping him. Proctor finished tonight with 18 points.
Jake Thompson 2018 Owasso Guard
Thompson lit up the scoreboard in the second half. He by no means had a bad first half but he took over in the second half and led his team in scoring. He was driving to the basket and scoring tough baskets over taller defenders. He is a perfect fit for Owasso’s slashing offense. A majority of his points came off the break in transition when he would attack the rim with vigor. Thompson also was a beast on the boards. He pulled down rebounds and got second chance points throughout the night. Thompson finished with a game-high 23 points.
Hayden Peterson 2019 Owasso Guard
Peterson was the best shooter against Norman. The Tigers could not contain Peterson as he drilled money-ball and stepped into the arch and hit his mid-range game. Peterson also did some dirty work for the Rams against Norman. He got down low and grabbed boards and did whatever Owasso needed tonight. Peterson finished with 18 points on the night.
Bryce Mooreland 2018 Norman Guard
In a poor performance from Norman, Mooreland was bright in the second half. His effort did not slip despite losing by 20+. He kept going at the Owasso defense and in the second half found some holes that he exploited to get to the rim. Mooreland was Norman’s best player and finished the night with a team-high 14 points, all of which came in the second half.
MVP
The MVP of the game does not got to a single person, but instead to the entire Owasso Rams bench. They were hype the entire game and provided support for their teammates on the court. In particular, two special needs students that cheered on their team to victory were the most excited. They sat directly behind the bench and provided a joy that is so often forgot about in the chaos of sports. They were the difference maker in getting the crowd involved in this game.
