West Columbus vs Riverside HS Standout Players
Riverside HS and West Columbus met up in a 2nd round state playoff game Thursday night and it turned out to be a good one. The teams went back and forth all game and the game would eventually go to overtime with West Columbus winning to survive and advance.
Riverside HS Senior PG Jadakis Bonds: One of the top facilitators and on-ball defenders in the area, he is a player that will give you nightmares when you’re matched up with him. He has a strong desire to win but does everything within the team mindset and is a very unselfish player.
West Columbus Senior Wing Jake Brownlee: The first half belonged to this young man, he scored the ball from all over the floor, knocking down some tough softs that were heavily contested. He’s a freakish athlete that plays with all his heart and most of all wants to win games.
Riverside HS Sophomore Forward Kiam Bethea: This wasn’t his best showing but you can see the upside in his game without a doubt. His ability to score inside and through contact is impressive as well as being able to step out and knock down the outside shot.
West Columbus Junior Forward Deontay Bromell: He provided a nice spark for his team and was active on the boards. Deontay is a type of player that you don’t have to attempt to run plays for, just put him on the court and he will find a way to make impact.
Riverside HS Junior Guard Ashaaun Belcher: In the first quarter when his team was looking for production he came up big leading his team in scoring with 6 points in the quarter. As the game went on he didn’t score much but stayed active and brought energy for his team.
West Columbus Junior Kevon Lewis: In the 4th quarter he was the leading scorer for his squad and would finish with 10 points. On the defensive end of the floor he is always talking, moving his feet and putting a body on a player when the shot goes up.
Riverside HS Junior Forward Jay Leavelle: Although he didn’t shoot the ball very often, you can see that he is a shooter due to his form. He gets his shot off in decent timing and understands how to keep the game simple. Late in the game he knocked down a trey ball to help Riverside extend it’s lead, will be solid if he keeps working hard.
West Columbus Senior Dejour Smith: He finished with just under a double/double with 8 points and 7 rebounds on the night. You can tell he spends a fair amount of time on the football field as he has what we would call gridiron toughness.
