Five Takeaways: DeMatha vs Gonzaga
DeMatha beat Gonzaga last night in a very close game with the final score being 57-53. DeMatha got revenge on the Eagles this time around as Gonzaga won earlier in the year.
DEMATHA HAS GREAT DEPTH
DeMatha’s depth really stood out last night. They were able to go 10 deep compared to Gonzaga’s 8 man rotation. Coach Jones does a great job flying players in and out of the game and when it came down to who had more stamina at the end of the game, DeMatha certainly had an edge in this column.
ALLIN BLUNT NEEDS TO BE ON COACHES RADAR
2018 unsigned senior Allin Blunt stood out from the beginning to the end last night for Gonzaga. He had 15 points and added a few rebounds, assists and blocks. He is a terrific glue guy who can do a little bit of everything. Recently in an interview he said that he was hearing from NJIT, Campbell and Army. That list should definitely get bigger if he keeps on playing like he did last night.
HUNTER DICKINSON GIVES DEMATHA A CHANCE TO WIN THE WCAC
The WCAC tournament kicks off next week and right now DeMatha would be the number two overall seed in the tournament but they are definitely one of the favorites to win the tournament and a big reason why is because of 2020 7’1 Hunter Dickinson. He is extremely hard to stop down low around the rim because of his size. Last night he finished with 14 points and was showing some great post moves.
GET TO KNOW 2021 MALCOLM DREAD
He did not step on the court till the 4th quarter but what a energy boost he gave Gonzaga. The younger brother of Penn State commit, Myles Dread, Malcolm will soon be the lone Dread brother at Gonzaga. He did some good things on offense and defense last night and is certainly a guy people should get familiar with.
ANOTHER MATCHUP NEXT WEEK?
There very well could be another matchup between Gonzaga and DeMatha next week during the WCAC tournament. We will have to wait and see how the regular season ends and what happens in the first few rounds of the tournament but if the season ended today, these two would be the favorites to meet in the semifinal round of the WCAC tournament and which would be there third matchup of the year.
