High School Spotlight: Decatur Central Hawks

The season is still a few months away, but it is never too early to look ahead at the high school season. We will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and more for the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the Decatur Central Hawks.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Quick Hitters</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Went 7-16 last season.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>&nbsp;Lost to Southport in Sectionals. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Head Coach Bryan Suber returns for his 5th year as head coach. He is 46-45<strong>&nbsp;</strong>as a head coach.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>&nbsp;Will compete for Sectional 12 tittle. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player: [player_tooltip player_id='2140420' first='Nash' last='Sigmund']<a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jahari-miller/"></a></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The junior sharpshooter will enter this upcoming season as the without-question No. 1 option for the Hawks. He returns as the team's leading scorer with nearly 10.0 points per game and will bring an elite level of shooting from deep as well. In the 2027 class, there may not be a better shooter off the catch than Sigmund, and going into this year, you should see an uptick in his overall playmaking as well. The ball will be in his hands a lot this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Players: [player_tooltip player_id='2892524' first='Elyas' last='Zapata']/[player_tooltip player_id='2892521' first='Michael' last='Norton']<a href="https://prephoops.com/player/damauri-crosby/"></a></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the more versatile frontcourts in the state will have a chance to really break out this season and contribute to the potential success of the Hawks. Both Zapata and Norton were solid contributors last season, but with a few holes to fill, they will be asked to take a step up in production. Each player brings really good size and is tough on the defensive end.
