On Saturday and Sunday (8/9 – 8/10), I attended MIT's prospect camp at their hoops facility in Cambridge, MA. There were about 150 players and 10+ teams to watch, but I think I got a solid read on the talent there (as solid as is possible in 2 days). However, I'm never able to see every single player, so it's always possible that great talent slips through the cracks.

With that being said, below are my MIT prospect camp honorable mentions.

Suter was one of the more intriguing long-term prospects from MIT camp. The 6-foot-7 wing is very skilled for his size and is able to do a lot on the perimeter; he can shoot it from three and the mid range, and he can drive closeouts if the defense overplays his shot. Once he gets to the hoop, he has solid athleticism above the rim and the touch to go with it. He's also a good rebounder and is a lot stronger defensively than he looks. He knows how to play and if he keeps improving his quickness and handle, he could be a big wing at the high D3 level or perhaps even D2.

Williams has one main superpower: hitting contested mid range jump shots. Despite some questionable shot selection at times, he has a very high release point on his jumper and gets lots of elevation over the defense when he shoots it. He can fadeaway on either side and is a tough shot maker. He also has solid strength at the rim and good athleticism and versatility for the wing position. If he can continue to develop his ball handling and standstill three point shooting, he could be a high level D3 guy based on his size and microwave scoring ability.

Kontul is small and relatively underdeveloped physically, but he is incredibly skilled. He has awesome change of speed and direction on his dribble moves, and he can get into the paint consistently as a result of his feel and craft. He was also one of the better three point shooters I saw at MIT, getting super hot at one point during Saturday's games. When he isn't looking to score, he makes great decisions for his teammates and never holds the ball for too long. Kontul should absolutely find a D3 fit, but I bet he'll be under-recruited because of his lack of size.

I didn't notice Ferrare during Saturday's games, but he was fairly dominant on Sunday morning for his squad. The lefty guard doesn't have too much vertical size (6-foot-1), but he's incredibly strong and is a lot quicker than he looks. He consistently beat his defender off the dribble and got to his southpaw for quick and crafty finishes, and he also strokes it from three. Most notable was his ability to pass the ball and play as part of an offense that moves the ball and makes quick decisions. He should find a D3 fit, but I bet the way he looks will limit his recruitment.

Ratnayake was one of the most interesting players to watch at MIT. The rising sophomore is only 5-foot-10 and doesn't look to have hit puberty yet, but he's super skilled and was able to exist on the court with older players as a result. He isn't the quickest or most athletic, but he uses head fakes quite well and really understands how to operate in the pick and roll. He also has excellent touch around the hoop and his a variety of nice floaters. Ratnayake could be a late bloomer and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get very high level D3 looks when the time comes.
