Prospect Spotlight: Norance Berry
Cleveland, Tennessee has produced some athletes over the years. The Small eastern Tennessee town is a working class area that is tradition rich. Vincent Yarbrough, Billie Nipper and Alvin Scott all played in the NBA and grew up honing their game on the streets and gyms of Cleveland, Tennessee.
Norance BerryNorance Berry is a sophomore at Christ School in Asheville, North Carolina who also starred at Cleveland High School prior to transferring. He is a hard working, talented shooting guard who recently picked up a high-major offer from Tennessee. He also holds offer from nearby UT-Chattanooga and East Tennesee State University.
Berry scored 6 points against national power Wheeler HS (GA) in The Peachtree Corners Invitational over the weekend. He also had a strong showing at The PrepHoops MLK Showcase in Greenville, SC a week ago.
Head Coach Jeff Depelteau had this to say about Norance, “Norance has been tremendous as of late. He has the ability to effect the game in so many ways, on offense, defense, and rebounding. We can always count on Norance to make a few tough, winning plays per night. He’s been huge for us in this recent stretch. I can’t imagine there are many 2-way players in the country better than Norance in the 2020 class.”
Berry is the junk-yard dog player for Christ School and does a little bit of everything for The Greenies. On this roster, filled with players that can score, Berry does his part by filling up the stat sheet with defensive stops, rebounds, steals, blocks, taking charges and being a solid teammate. Those characteristics are what made Mark Turgeon of Maryland leave impressed after watching Christ School work out back in September.
Berry is a legitimate high-major two-way player that doesn’t shy away from guarding the oppositions best player. He can create off the dribble and get into the paint and he can shoot consistently off the catch. He has good size at 6-foot-3 and can get into the paint and rebound against bigger players. He has a college-ready body and is lean and tough. He is versatile and can play multiple positions on the floor. He is able to read ball screens and can knock down the open jumper out past the three-point line. He has a tight handle and can score off the ball.
