Class 4A: Top 10 Returning Assists

1.) 2026 Jack Mogensen (Sioux City North) -- 117 assists   Mogensen, a 5-11 lead guard, knows what he's good at and does a nice job playing within himself and his strengths. He's not a scorer, averaging just 2.6 points per game last season, but he is a talented playmaker with good vision who dished out a team-high 5.6 assists per game last season. He does a great job protecting the ball, too, posting a 2.25 assist-to-turnover ratio.   2.) 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2731874' first='David' last='Fason'] (Prairie) -- 116   Fason was a revelation as a junior for the Hawks, emerging as a reliable playmaker and shot creator, as well as a strong on-ball defender. He's a tough, athletic guard who can create quality looks for himself and his teammates, averaging 7.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game as a junior.   3.) 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1977422' first='Rio' last='Aguirre'] (Ankeny) -- 114   Aguirre is a pure hooper, a highly intelligent basketball player who just makes everything look smooth and effortless. His vision, pace, and feel are high level, and his ability to score from anywhere on the floor puts constant pressure on opposing defenses, and opens up his playmaking.   4.) 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1978117' first='Davion' last='Luckett'] (City) -- 110   A diminutive, quick guard who puts constant pressure on opposing defenders with his speed and physicality, Luckett accounted for more than a third of the Little Hawks' assists last season.   5.) 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1978104' first='Easton' last='Klement'] (Council Bluffs Lincoln) -- 97   Like his MRAC counterpart at the top of this list, Klement is a true pass-first lead guard who averaged nearly as many assists (4.4) as points (4.8) as a junior. He's surrounded by a number of skilled scoring threats, and he does a great job using his vision and passing instincts to set them up.   6.) 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2731790' first='Noah' last='Martens'] (Dowling Catholic) -- 89   Martens is a solid two-way weapon who led the Maroons in scoring (12.0), assists (3.9), and steals (1.5) last season. He's an intelligent, tough guard with a great feel for the game, doing a nice job changing his pace to keep defenders off balance.   7.) 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2381208' first='Drake' last='Gersema'] (Marshalltown) -- 87   Gersema pairs with [player_tooltip player_id='2413554' first='Kyle' last='Smith'] to give the Bobcats a solid one-two punch in the backcourt, with Gersema serving as the playmaker, and Smith the scorer. Gersema does a nice job playing with pace and setting his teammates up with clean looks.   8.) 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765539' first='Max' last='Roach'] (Waukee) -- 85   A shifty guard with great handles, vision, and the ability to change speeds, Roach is one of the best guards in the class operating in ball screen actions. He reads the defense well and is a skilled passer, shooter, and finisher at the rim.   9.) 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2419791' first='Austin' last='Joens'] (Prairie) -- 78   Joens is known for his shooting, 41.7% from the 3-point line as a sophomore, but he's also an adept playmaker with good handles, feel, and vision. He dished out 3.2 assists per game, posting a 2.17 assist-to-turnover ratio, and will be the focal point for a Hawks team that will be among the best in the class this winter.   10.) 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2906539' first='Jameer' last='Falls'] (Mason City) -- 78   Falls is a quick, athletic guard who can put pressure on opposing defenses with his speed and ability to create off the dribble. If he's able to become a bit more efficient as a scorer, it'll open up the rest of his game and allow him some more space to operate as both a scorer and playmaker.
