is a universal athlete and impactful hooper in the paint and on the perimeter, despite his size and frame. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, Fason was heavily overlooked — even in his football recruitment — because of his size. Notably recognized by Prairie head football coach as a prospect that would have “every offer in the country” if he was 6-foot-4 or taller, Fason is a bit limited on the basketball court because of his height.
At the same time, he uses his explosiveness and deceptive athleticism to impact the game more than most others could at his size — similar to what he does on the football field.
With a solid handle, the ability to compete on the interior thanks to embracing physicality and a smooth-looking jump shot, Fason isn’t a football player masquerading as a basketball player. He’s a legitimate athlete that can reliably play multiple sports with the best in the Cedar Rapids metro.

Fason was a revelation last year for the Hawks, emerging as a great playmaker and arguably the team’s best defender. A strong, physical, and quick guard who can defend one through four at this level, he isn’t afraid to throw his physicality around on the offensive end either, backing down defenders and scoring at the bucket or finding open teammates. He stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 7.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game last season. He’ll play football at Iowa next year.

A strong, physical guard who doesn’t shy away from contact around the bucket, Fason’s ability to create plays off the dribble for himself and his teammates was on full display throughout the Hawks’ win. He sees the floor incredibly well and is a creative, skilled passer who always makes the right read and is willing to pass up his own good shot for a great shot for his teammate. He had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists on 7-10 shooting.
