Toledo St Francis has a ton of talent and Hornbeak is a nice complimentary guard who should be a nice release point for Oj Waller Oj Waller 5'9" | PG St. Francis de Sales | 2028 State OH and Chris Poellnitz III Chris Poellnitz III 6'2" | CG St. Francis de Sales | 2028 State OH this season. Hornbeak can handle the ball against pressure, slash to the rim and can also use the Knights size to throw the ball to the block for his teammates to finish. Defensively is where Hornbeak has the potential to make the biggest difference because he has the frame and quickness to defend the opposing teams top scoring option. The Detroit Catholic League is always loaded with talent and Hornbeak is just another player to watch in a league that will have marquee matchups every time two league opponents square off.

Hornbeak is a straight-up hooper. He’s a guard with an extremely long wingspan and uses it to be a disruptive defender. With great size for a point guard, he handles the ball well, slashes with confidence, and always competes with high energy. His competitiveness and versatility make him one of the more intriguing guards in this field.

Hornbeak is a hooper. Through and through, you can just tell this is what he does. He is a skilled guard with a raw feel to his game. He is an aggressive player who has a score-first mentality but does not force bad looks that will hurt his team. He has a nice, long wingspan with a good frame. He plays the game with a freedom and energy you see in a pick-up game at the park. He knows how to break down defenders and score at the cup. This junior will be a breakout player this year in the Toledo area.

I was impressed with Hornbeak’s ability to make a couple open shots, attack with confidence in transition off the bounce and overall look the part athletically against one of the best teams in Ohio. Not the end result Toledo St Francis was looking for on Friday afternoon but Hornbeak showed some bright flashes in the game. After winning the regional title last season, Toledo St Francis might be even better this coming season if players like Hornbeak take the steps they are capable of based off their summer flashes.
