Highlighted by an efficient blend of rim pressure and mid range area shot making, Baldwin was impressive in picking his spots— using creative ball handling to manipulate defenders and create separation for smooth mid range pull ups and turn around jumpers, capitalizing on defensive lapses in transition and leveraging his quickness for easy at the rim finishes, instinctively moving well without the ball and finding open space for backdoor cuts, and even attacking closeouts to get downhill in the half court when the defensive was forced into rotations.

Baldwin has an opportunity to take a significant step forward this season. With graduation and transfers opening up touches at St. Peter’s Prep, the sophomore enters the year as one of the more proven players on the roster and looked ready for the increased responsibility Saturday. He can create his own offense, get to his spots and consistently find his way into the paint. After leading Lightning’s 15U group in scoring, Baldwin looks capable of carrying that production into a much larger role at SPP.

From May on, Baldwin evolved into the go-to scorer for a NY Lightning unit that was competitive all year long. A quick and crafty lead guard who excelled at getting his own shot and putting up points on all three levels, he is set up to step into a bigger role at St. Peter’s this season.

A legitimate instant impact point guard who hung his hat on doing whatever the game called for Baldwin excelled at being extremely productive in the minutes he was provided, particularly as a decision maker— combining sharp court vision with quickness to penetrate the paint and effectively distribute the ball, crafty finishing around the rim, highlighting his ability to turn the corner and attack off the dribble and handling defensive pressure well staying composed and avoiding the tendency to play too fast.

Baldwin also impressed in his ability to handle the basketball against opposing pressure and not get too sped up. Baldwin used his quickness to get downhill and turn the corner often to finish with craftiness around the basket. Displaying good court vision in combination with on time passing in half court sets, Baldwin displayed his ability to also get his teammates involved and create clean scoring chances.
