Cunningham fitting in perfect at Harrah
Just before the school year began Brett Cunningham moved to Harrah from Dale. The move has been the perfect fit for him with the Panthers in Class 4A. Cunningham led Harrah to win the Weatherford tournament earlier this month averaging 27 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists.
“Harrah has been good,” said Cunningham. “I really enjoy playing with my new teammates and against better competition.”
The numbers Cunningham has been putting up over the year are impressive. Over the season Cunningham is averaging 18.2 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He has improved a lot in his game.
Shooting has always been a great weapon in Cunningham’s game. This year Cunningham is showing colleges that he can put the ball on the floor and finish around the basket. The biggest area of improvement in his game is rebounding. Cunningham says the biggest reason for his success this season at Harrah is the effort he is putting in every play!
“I believe a lot of success is just playing hard,” said Cunningham. “Having good shooters makes the lane open for drives. Getting to the free throw line helps too.”
When talking with Cunningham it makes sense that his biggest gains this year are on the boards and attacking the basket. Those are the two areas he has focused on this season.
“I feel like some of my best attributes to the team have been my rebounding, and attacking the basket.”
Cunningham has two big goals this year. First to make the Class 4A state tournament and second to get a college scholarship.
Prep Hoops projects Cunningham to the NAIA Division II level. The ability of Cunningham at 6’4 on the Wing to score the ball from behind the three-point line and drive to the rim along with him being a good rebounder will make him a good fit for a college program.
