Recruiting Report: Messiah Thompson (2019)
Currently checking in as Georgia’s 48th-ranked 2019, 5-foot-9 point guard Messiah Thompson has a big year ahead, and hopes that his current recruitment materializes into offers soon.
There’s currently a slew of division I programs that are keying in on the talented junior, and he mentioned two which are after him the most right now.
“I have interest from South Carolina-Upstate, Murray State, Tennessee State, South Alabama, College of Charleston and UNC-Greensboro. Murray State and Tennessee State are the ones that have shown the most interest in me,” said the North Atlanta floor-general.
“I want to go to the best situation for me, and of course, I would love it to be a big-time school. But, really I just want to set myself up to play any at the next level.”
Thomson mentioned to PHGA what his exact style of play is, and how he uses his strengths as a player to make an impact each night out.
“I’m a true point guard, I love to pass and get my teammates involved. A lot of people don’t know that, because the teams I’ve been on before I had to really score a lot to win,” said Thompson.
“But this year, I’m leading the state in assists, last time I checked. I love to get my teammates looks pride myself in that.”
He added: “I like to guard you 94-feet, I like to talk a little trash, and I’m a floor general.”
This season, with North Atlanta, Thompson is averaging 15 point and 10 assists per game. He says he’s happy with the way his squad is gelling.
“As a team, we’re coming around right now. I think we’re 9-5 right now and the games we’ve lost have been off a buzzer-beater,” said Thompson.
“We’re growing as a team and becoming closer everyday, we have a lot of new transfers that came in, so we’re coming along.”
As soon as Thompson’s junior season is finished, he’ll head right into his 17U season DF Celtics. That’s when he could see his recruitment swell.
“College coaches last year were saying they want to see me get my teammates more involved,” said Thompson. “We’re going to be on the (adidas) Gauntlet, so my goal is to lead the Gauntlet in assists.”
