Epic Championship Game at the McGuinness Classic
The McGuinness Classic Championship Game was an epic game from start to finish. Edmond Santa Fe ended up topping Norman North 68-66. Kamden Gipson stole the show with a masterful performance scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Wolves to victory.
Edmond Santa Fe might have found a key ingredient to their run at the Gold Ball in 2018. The Wolves were in need of leadership and it seems they have found three senior leaders to spark their title run in Kamden Gipson, Tauriawn Knight, and Tyus Jeffries.
Edmond Santa Fe has all of the pieces to win a state championship when you look at their squad. The question is can they work together? They struggled earlier in the year, but seem to have started to figure some things out this weekend at the McGuinness Classic.
The other side of things, Norman North lost this one, but they are a lot better than people thought. Juwan White, Jalen Crutchfield and Shemar Smith are quite the big three. White is a good creator with the ball that opens the defense. Crutchfield has continued to progress adding the drive and mid-range to his game. Crutchfield is one of the best three-point shooters in catch and shoot situations in the state. Smith is an emerging 2019 Post that is a little undersized around 6’5. However, don’t be surprised when Smith starts to get looks from Low Major Division I programs with a big summer in 2018.
We could see this matchup between Edmond Santa Fe and Norman North be a state tournament game or a game to get to the state tournament. Both teams are state tournament quality. This year has a wide open feel to Class 6A one of these programs could end up with a Gold Ball.
