Key Games Across the State
Here is a look at some of the keys games this week in and around WNC.
Reynolds HS at North Buncombe HS– A batlle of two of WNC’s scorers with Reynold’s Isaiah Pruett and North Buncombe’s Ren Dyer. Both of these players have scored 30+ points in multiple games. Pruett
Isaiah Pruettat the point guard spot and Dyer at the small forward spot. Dyer is a long and athletic forward that can finish at the rim. Both schools are off to strong starts to the season and this should be a good test for both schools. Pruett and Dyer should be in the really talks for conference player of year honors with their stats so far in the season.
Enka HS at Erwin HS-Enka has the guard play covered with Devin Bassett and Jake Smith taking those duties. Smith is a High-flying guard that can fill the basket up. Erwin HS has a scorer of it’s own with Rashad Chaffin, the guard has been leading the Warriors in scoring over the past few games. A big match-up in this game will 6-foot-5 Jay Walton of Enka, a skilled, athletic forward who should be matched up with one of Erwin’s post players to try and keep the guards honest.
Garner HS vs Heritage HS-The first meeting with Garner HS prevailing 84-79. Both teams are considered two of the best teams in the state. Heritage is led by Virginia Tech and double-double machine Jarren McAllister along with one of the best rebounders in the state with ECU signee Jayden Gardner. Garner HS is led by Kenyon Burt, a 6-foot-6 forward who has some Division One interest along with some Division Two offers. Also playing big this season for Garner HS is 6-foot-3 guard Marque Maultby, a scoring guard. This game could also be a teaser to a NCHSAA playoff game later in the season.
