All Met Candidate: Ayinde Hikim
In this series, we will take an up close look at 10 First Team All-Met candidates in the DMV. With all things being considered, our prediction covers three categories: individual production, team performance, and level of competition. We will release one candidate each day, with the players organized in alphabetical order by last name. Here, we profile Woodrow Wilson 2018 guard Ayinde Hikim.
PRODUCTION
As many know, the Tigers have added some firepower to team up alongside Hikim, and we think this only makes him more dangerous. Despite his size, the unsigned senior can score, defend, and distribute at a very high level. Hikim’s aggressiveness and relentless style is very pleasing to the eye, and a joy to watch.
PERFORMANCE
Wilson squeaked by Rock Creek Christian in their first game of the season in a hotly contested matchup of two of the top teams in the area. This is a massive win for the Tigers, who will look to build off this win moving forward.
COMPETITION
Coach Angelo Hernandez has challenged his team with a competitive schedule this season. The Tigers will play in the Gonzaga Classic later this month, where they will face off against Cardinal Hayes (NY). The out of conference games they’ve scheduled will be a good primer for a difficult run through the DCIAA gauntlet, where they will face rivals Theodore Roosevelt and up-and-coming McKinley Tech. If Hikim can help the Tigers successfully navigate their way to another DCIAA crown, it will be difficult not to include him as an All Met First Teamer.
