We're spotlighting some athletes who make an impact on playing surfaces besides just the hardwood this week. We've already discussed 2025 prospects from every position on the basketball court and now is time for part two of our 2026 guards series.

I'm sure we've all heard of one golfer named after an SEC mascot who dominated greens across the country (Tiger Woods) but did you know there's another golfer in southeast Ohio who helped make school history. [player_tooltip player_id='2386466' first='Gator' last='Nichols'] helped Maysville qualify for states in golf for the first time this century last season and followed that up with a trip to the Division II state championship game in March on the hardwood.

One of the top quarterbacks in Ohio, Davis has had a monster Fall for the 7-1 Olentangy Orange Pioneers. Already holding offers from schools like UNLV, FAU, Kent State and more, Davis is taking care of the football at an elite level. Through week 6 Davis had an incredible 17-1 TD/INT ratio. On the hardwood, Davis had one of the highlights of the season during the Pioneers district championship win over Reynoldsburg when he dunked all over the Raiders. One of the top athletes in Ohio, Davis also excels on the track during the spring.

I wanted to pair this Olentangy Orange duo together for this article because they share the gridiron and hardwood together. On the defensive end of the ball, few players are as active as Schroeder and quarterbacks and wide receivers need to know where he is at all times. At the midway point of the regular season Schroeder already had five interceptions after having seven as a Sophomore. Safe to say he's a ballhawk in the air. On the hardwood, Schroeder plays tough defense and takes care of the basketball, making the extra effort for his team.

After starting the year 0-3, Lexington has found their stride thanks to two touchdowns from Allen in a 19-13 win over West Holmes to get back on the right side of the playoff bubble as the Minutemen currently sit as the 12th seed in region 10. Allen also scored a touchdown during Lexington's win over Mansfield Senior, the first time Lexington has beaten Mansfield Senior since 2018. Few teams have played tougher schedules than Lexington who lost to 8-0 Ontario and 8-0 Shelby in the first two weeks of the season. They end the season with 8-0 Ashland, three games that will have them prepared if they can qualify for the playoffs.

A three-sport athlete for Fairview, Allen and [player_tooltip player_id='2328307' first='Burke' last='Lowry'] have been big reasons why the Warriors program won their first ever district championship for basketball last year and now have the Warriors sitting at 5-3 on the gridiron. Allen has a handful of interceptions and Lowry is the quarterback who just broke the Fairview record for career passing yards and touchdowns as just a Junior. The best part about the Allen and Lowry connection? There's still two more seasons to watch them on the hardwood and two more potential playoff pushes on the gridiron left in their Warrior careers.

Margaretta started 0-4 this season but have hit their stride with three wins in their last four and the lone loss coming to 7-0 Hopewell Loudon by single-digits. They've climbed out of an early season playoff points hole and now sit in 14th with the chance to move up with late season wins. Keller has been crucial in the turnaround with 18 solo tackles and over 180 yards rushing in the past two wins. If the Polar Bears keep this momentum up, they could be a sleeper to make a playoff run like Keller helped fuel a regional final appearance on the hardwood back in March.

One of the top soccer players in southwest Ohio, Pequignot won CBC-Mad River player of the year. Currently tied for the school record with 24 goals as a Junior, Pequignot needs just one more goal in the playoffs to stand alone at the top. Indian Lake went 10-0 in conference play on the hardwood last season with Pequignot averaging 5.5 points per game. An all-around athlete to know from southwest Ohio.
