Trent Smith Signs with UCO
Last season Trent Smith burst onto the scene in Oklahoma leading Latta to a state championship. He continued to play well in the summer developing his game on the Wing. This past Wednesday Smith had the opportunity to accomplish one of his high school goals, sign with a college. Smith signed his letter of intent to attend the University of Central Oklahoma.
“What solid me is probably the distance from home and size of the school,” said Smith. “I am far enough from home where I will have space but close enough to visit.”
Smith felt a lot of pressure in the recruiting process. He questioned whether to sign early or wait it out and see if a better offer came along. In the end, the University of Central Oklahoma was too good of an opportunity for him to turn down. The ability to play in his home state at a school in a great NCAA Division II conference landed Smith with the Bronchos. The pressure is now off of Smith allowing him to focus on his senior season and winning another state championship!
“It feels amazing,” said Smith. “Now I can enjoy my senior year and know that I have my home after the season.”
Smith will be a great addition on the Wing to Central Oklahoma giving them a player with length that can score the basketball and impact the game on both ends. As for this season don’t be surprised when Smith is leading Latta to another deep run at the Class 2A Gold Ball!
