My annual Film Room series is back for another year! There were over 50 Players who submitted High School, Grassroots, or Camp Highlights for review and all will be featured in an article on Prep Hoops. Check out my thoughts on the first group of 2027s, 2028s, and 2029s and watch their film in the post from @AndrewBaxleySC on X (Twitter):

[player_tooltip player_id='2139480' first='Christopher' last='Horton'] begins our next category of prospects for film review, and he submitted some highlights from this year's Nike Peach Jam. Horton was one of the state's biggest breakout stars of July and his tape showcased why. Christopher is a terrific perimeter shooter including having a game with 5 3PM in North Augusta. He excelled off the ball as a spot-up shooter and as a shot creator displaying tough step-backs and movement shots. Horton also showcased a little bit of playmaking using his impressive handle and vision to find his bigs around the paint. One area where I feel he could improve is with the in-between scoring game. Taking the next step as a contested finisher and mid-range shooter would help Horton's stock tremendously.

Malachi posted his highlights from the Puma NXT Event in Florida last July where he averaged 16 PPG and 7 PPG playing up in the 16U Division. A lot of Hamlet's scoring came in and around the paint. He plays at a slower, more deliberate pace but is comfortable even when pressured. Malachi's athleticism, footwork, creativity, and ability to finish with either hand were all key to his impressive scoring reel. Hamlet is also a strong shot blocker for a young guard, averaging 2 BPG in the event. His release is on the slower side and can cause his jump shots to be defended tougher than usual.

I was impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='2420723' first='Sanjaya' last='Johnson']'s film. He is a versatile wing with good size already and plenty more to grow into. His length is a factor at both ends of the floor allowing him to effect shots and shoot over defenders. He is a particularly good three-point shooter from the left corner, with 4 made shots from that area in just a 2 minute video. Johnson also has a good handle and had some clips facilitating the offense, finding teammates, and scoring off the dribble. I think Sanjaya has the tools to be a multi-positional defender, but I would've liked to see that in his highlights because that could be a major attribute for him.

Jeremiah finished the AAU Season with [program_tooltip program_id='2519838' first='Noble' last='Knights'], often playing up with 2025s and 2026s. Howard's highlight tape from a July Big Shots Event had a large sample size of outside shooting as well as some scrappy paint scoring and intelligent passing. Howard is a good weapon because of his efficient shooting and will add spacing to any offense. One area of improvement I would take away from Jeremiah''s film is his handle. When the game speed and ball pressure pick up, it is always important for Guards to be functional ball handlers and I would see Howard's stock improving with an added level of playmaking.

Thompson submitted just a couple of short clips for review, but from a physical standpoint, it is clear that he has the tools to be a dominant force. He is listed at 6'5" 250 lbs and is an Offensive Lineman as well as a Basketball player at AC Flora High School with a 3.9 GPA. On the hardwood, Ashton is deceptively active for his size and will run the floor in transition or after made baskets. He is also a force on both glasses and is a good defender in the paint.

Cylan is a prospect I wasn't familiar with before watching his film for this series. He has lots of good two-way qualities including long arms to get in passing lanes and affect shots, a shifty handle, good jump shooting, and vision. McLeod is also fast with the ball in hands and moves his feet quickly as an on-ball defender. If Cylan can balance out his scoring by adding more right-handed finishing and shooting moving left he could become a very good prospect for the Timberwolves.
