Recruiting Report: Bryce Douglas (2019)
Bryce Douglas, a class of 2019 guard at Centreville, appears to be in very good form heading into his second season with the Wildcats. The talented transfer had a fantastic debut season, helping lead his team to a district championship. Douglas believes his team is capable of building from last year’s success.
“I just have to score a lot. Assist the ball. Play defense. Just listen to the game plan,” Douglas said of his role for the team. “We have to execute this year. Last year we could get away without executing certain stuff, but This year we really have to execute to win. Last year since we won the concord, this year we want to win the region. and possibly go to states and win that too.”
While on the UAA with DC Premier, Douglas found himself in some very difficult match-ups on the wing. He learned that he needs to adapt in order to survive at the highest level.
“I have to turn into a point guard. That’s what I really learned,” Douglas stated. “Having to play off guard against some dudes that are like 6’4, 6’5 and really athletic, so I just have to work on becoming a point guard. Just a pure point guard.”
Douglas is a crafty ball handler that likes to attack the rim. His jump shot has become more consistent since last season, and he’s gotten very good at reading and reacting in the pick and roll. Douglas is drawing more fouls than ever, and his free throw stroke has improved.
“(George) Mason was at practice yesterday. They were in to watch me, and they were talking to me,” Douglas said of his recruitment. “I’m also hearing from High Point, Rhode Island, Mount St. Mary’s, VCU.”
Douglas saw his recruitment expand significantly this summer, and credits that mainly to the exposure he gained on the UAA. What can he bring to a college program?
“Leadership. I can score the ball. I can shoot the three. Distribute. And just be a talker on the floor.”
