Recruiting Report: Ethan Heller (2019)
Showing added athleticism and skills this summer with OH-NOVA (Bennett), 6’0” point guard Ethan Heller (2019) established himself as a scholarship-level prospect.
While there haven’t been any offers yet, it would be shocking if the two-sport junior from Sheridan High School slips through the cracks.
“Findlay and Ohio Dominican and Mount Vernon Nazarene, couple other schools [are showing interest]. I think Findlay has been recruiting me the hardest. They text me once in a while,” Heller told Prep Hoops.
Findlay expressing interest early in the process is the type of activity that is meaningful to Heller.
“I definitely want to find the right fit. I definitely want to go to a school that wants me the most. I just want to be able to contribute and make the team successful,” Heller said.
Heller would also prefer to find a school with a physical therapy program.
“That’s what my dad does and I have a good idea of what that is and how that goes.”
Heller has not taken any campus visits yet.
He’s also seeing a tad bit of interest from Division III programs as a quarterback. While he’s closing in on the single-season school record for passing yards, he’s much more committed to hooping.
“I’m really looking to pursue basketball more. I put more time into basketball,” Heller said.
That time spent on the hardwood also includes the fall, where he finds time within his football schedule to work on his craft.
“It makes it a little harder with football, because, I mean, you have it every day. Practices are long. For basketball, I would go from football practice for two hours, and then I would go to the gym I go to. Do some basketball drills for about an hour and that takes up most of my night. That’s time consuming. But if you want to be really good, you got to find time to put the work in,” Heller said.
Heller, who is already a consistent 3-point shooter off the catch and has a nice floater game, is looking to get into the lane more often.
“The paint touches. Getting a lot of paint touches and creating for others. Having the defense close it down on me and kick out to the shooters. Then, finishing at the rim,” Heller responded, when asked what he’s working on particularly.
For those who have only seen Heller for Nova Village, you’ll see him as more of a scorer for Sheridan. The 3.9 GPA student-athlete has high expectations for the team this year, as him and Grant Heileman look to capture a Mukingum Valley League title.
