After missing his sophomore year due to injury, [player_tooltip player_id='1643228' first='Patrick' last='Kilfoil'] was determined to be a factor as a junior. The Jesuit combo guard did just that for the Crusaders in 2023-24, leading the team in scoring and helping Jesuit reach the 6A state tournament for the first time in four years. While Kilfoil is now looking to capture the eyes of college coaches this summer an increase his college recruitment, he can look back on last year with plenty of pride.

"It was really fun - I mean, just being in that environment like all the games on Friday nights and stuff was awesome, because I hadn't experienced that, being out my sophomore year," Kilfoil said. "I love it, and I'm just so excited to come back and our team is very eager. We've been in the gym, and everyone's been working hard, and we've been getting on good. A big part of it is to communicate and be really as team-oriented and that's big for us.

"I feel like at the start it was kind of just nerve-wracking - I was more sped up," Kilfoil continued. "But honestly it was just reps, and I can thank trainers for that and everything. Those reps helped me in the game and in practice, I started to see stuff more and then slow down. I got to play at my pace and not like get sped up by other teams."

Kilfoil ended up leading Jesuit in scoring at 16.2 ppg, but also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals while putting up some solid shooting percentages - 48 percent from the field, 37 from three, and 80 from the line. He has built on that momentum, first this spring in AAU ball with [program_tooltip program_id='2248856' first='Players' last='Only'], and now this June back with his Jesuit teammates. Spending a lot of time playing at the point has further diversified his game, one he's continually trying to improve.

"I just need to be able to pick up 94 feet and the other thing is just, like, my pace and my guardability, especially coming off ball screens - like I need to be advanced coming off that," Kilfoil said. "And then just being able to just make shots, to be honest, like get to my spot more. Just get to my spot and be able to make shots and when the opportunity comes, just execute it."

Like most, Kilfoil would love the opportunity to play Division I basketball and notes that the University of San Diego is a "dream school" for him and likes some other schools in California such as Cal Poly. So while he's aiming high, he knows the best thing he can do is simply go out and perform when the opportunities are in front of him and let the process run its course.

"I've been on some radars, but my goal is to just, like, perform the best I can because, like Marquis (Matthews) and my other coaches just told me they'll find you," Kilfoil said. "So if you're killing and doing your thing, like, they'll come to find you."

Jesuit has done well in June ball and Kilfoil is hopeful that the victories continue in July when he switches back over to running with [program_tooltip program_id='2248856' first='Players' last='Only'].

"I think we're capable of winning a lot more tournaments," Kilfoil said. "I mean, we've got hype, we've got the dudes to do it, and we got a really good team camaraderie - I've been playing with Keenan (Reckamp) and Kai (Russell) since like sixth grade and we all love each other and we love being around each other. Our practices are usually harder than our games so as soon as we start to really get together and find each other, what we do well, it's going to change everything for us."
