PureFocus Summer Slam - Sunday Morning Standouts

The PureFocus Summer Slam took place this past weekend at multiple sites on the west side of the Portland Metro area and we had the opportunity to drop by and take in some action. On Sunday morning, we caught a handful of games involving multiple teams at Pacific University - here are some of the top performers that we saw.    For the second day in a row at the Summer Slam, Haskett impressed - this time at Pacific University catching the eye of Boxers head coach Justin Lunt. In a win over Franklin, the rising senior stepped out and knocked down multiple three-point shots - from the college three-point distance - and was also tough getting to the basket as well. As Oregon City's main big, he did good work on the boards and registered some blocked shots as well. He finished with team highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds.     Franklin lost a lot from their roster due to graduation/transfer but one incoming newcomer that will help out a ton is Songolo. The rising junior, who played JV at Central Catholic last season, is a lanky guard that makes his living getting to the basket and using his length to finish in creative ways. In a loss to Oregon City, he was near unstoppable getting into the lane for scores, finishing with a team-high 18 points.     Ochoa has put up some monster scoring efforts so far this summer with Mountainside and while his 15-point effort in a tight loss to Prairie wasn't necessarily huge, it was a big part of the Mavericks offense in an overall low-scoring game. The rising senior was sharp with the deep ball as usual but showed good form on his pull-ups and had a number of strong drives to the basket absorbing contact and earning free throw line opportunities.     Redmond will be a very young team in 2026-27 under new head coach Alex Carlson but one guy that will return is his son, Jake. The younger Carlson is an up-and-coming post prospect that as a coach's son understands the game as he keeps his focuson what he does well, which is establish position down low and focus on things such as rebounding and defense. He had two solid games on Sunday at the Summer Slam, averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds, and shot the ball at a high percentage.     We've seen the future of Redmond basketball and his name is Bo Downs. Now standing about 6-foot-5 with likely more growth on the way, the incoming freshman has a very nice looking shot from the perimter and already shows a good feel for the game. He put up some good numbers in 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games on Sunday at the Summer Slam and as his body physically matures and his skills continue to refine - we're confident he's one to watch out for from day one when he steps onto campus at Redmond High School.
