Hudson got things going for Comets Elite with an alley-oop dunk for their first bucket of the game. From there his production didn’t slow down as they went on to defeat Pack in an intense game. Hudson is an explosive athlete out on the wing at 6’3, and has a versatile game. He showed he can finish above the rim with ease, defend the 1-4 spots, and showed better vision than I knew he had. He’s a smart player who doesn’t make many mistakes on the ball, and is able to take what the defense gives him as he doesn’t have many weaknesses as a player.

The Minnesota Spartans had tough matchups in their first two rounds, and Jerome was a key reason why they were able to advance deeper in the bracket. He’s simply too quick for most defenders to stick with, and he makes it even more difficult with how well he changes his pace on the ball. Sag off and Jerome can pull-up for a three, but play him tight and he’s going to freeze you before blowing by to the basket. Since I’ve last seen him play he’s gotten even more explosive, which helps him play off two feet and hang in the air to finish against bigger players. Defensively he was a pest on the ball all weekend long, utilizing that elite quickness to pressure opposing guards constantly.
Highlights
Dre had a big game helping lead Starks Elite past Power Circle Basketball Academy. The Anoka guard is a sharpshooter with a quick release and deep range beyond the arc. Towards the end of the first half and beginning of the second, he helped Starks Elite build up a comfortable lead with a handful of threes, a lead that they would hold on to for the rest of the game. Ellis also added in a couple of assists out in the open floor on his way to a productive game.

Kevin took over in the 2nd half of last night’s game against MN Crossfire . He’s already an established varsity player before even starting high school, and that experience showed as he was making the game look easy playing up at the 15u level. Wilson already understands how to utilize change of speed to get to his spots on the floor, and wasn’t settling for contested jumpers. Despite being one of the smaller players on the floor he was attacking the rim hard, showing good body control to extend and finish against taller players. Has impressive touch to spin the ball in off the glass from a variety of angles.
Though listed at 6’3, Dominic looks like he might be a little taller than that. He’s a versatile forward who has a fluid handle out on the perimeter, but can also use his strength to play some bully ball in the paint. Against Minnesota Splash, defenders just couldn’t keep him away from the rim as he racked up finish after finish inside. He has good touch to finish through contact, and was creating good looks off the drive, from the block, and with some off-ball cuts. Used his strong frame to clear out space to pull in boards as well.
Highlights
Lamont had some nice moments for his Minnesota Select team. He has a strong frame for a guard, and knows how to utilize it to live in the paint. So good at getting into the lane and playing off of two feet, where he can finish strong at the basket or pull up for a quick floater to finish over size. Just kept on finding ways to get into the lane, and when the defense collapsed he showed the vision to locate an open shooter out on the perimeter. He’s a better shooter than I thought as well, as he knocked down back-to-back threes in the second half to help give his team a lead in a close game.
Angok is still pretty raw offensively, but his long 6’7 frame on the defensive end was key in leading his team to an overtime win over West Central United on Saturday morning. He has such a long wingspan and does an excellent job of walling up around the basket. Even if he wasn’t getting a hand on a shot, Angok just kept on contesting everything to force miss after miss in the paint. Does a good job of sliding his feet to get into position, and his ability to stay straight up while taking some contact to the chest allowed him to stay out of foul trouble.
