Watch List: 6A Wings
Unlike the guards, the majority of the wings who will make an impact this year have a lot of varsity experience. In fact, a good portion of them will be entering their final season of eligibility. This group is highlighted due largely to their versatility and skill set.
Watch List: 6A Wings
Jordan Mains 6’4 SG 2019 Pinnacle
Mains is one of the most improved players in the entire state. His athleticism mixed with length and shooting ability have enabled him to make a huge impact for his club team this summer. Although this group is loaded, I expect Mains to play a bigger role than he played last year.
Mason Johnson 6’8 SF 2018 Pinnacle
Johnson brings length and athleticism at the wing. With the talented guard play at Pinnacle, Johnson is going to be able to make a living off of catch and shoots as well as dump off passes. Johnson is extremely skilled and will play a pivotal role for the #1 ranked Pinnacle.
Jabari Sutherland 6’4 SG 2018 Mountain Ridge
Mountain Ridge appears to be down on talent in comparison to years past. However, Sutherland is an athletic wing who should get serious consideration to play at the next level. He is versatile and strong. Although he fits more of a 2 or 3 at the next level, his toughness and athleticism enable him to guard 1-4 at the high school level.
Da’Ron Holmes 6’7 SF/PF 2021 Millennium
Holmes has not officially stepped foot onto the varsity court yet. However, he made a huge impact this summer and in the events that I have seen him in. Holmes brings tremendous length as a freshman and good athleticism. Further, he has a solid handle which enables him to make an impact in an array of ways. He is going to have a huge season as a freshman.
Cedric Bridges 6’5 SF/PF 2018 Westview
Bridges is as physical as they come. Further, despite being undersized, he is explosive and can finish above the rim with ease. Moreover, his shooting ability, especially from mid-range. Bridges has a lot of potential due to his explosiveness and physical style of play. However, he will maximize his potential if he is able to make the transition to the wing full time.
Christian Diaz 6’4 SF 2018 Westview
Diaz has largely gone under the radar. However, there is no question that this young man can play. He is one of the best on-ball defenders in the entire state. Further, he plays all out and does all of the little things that many people won’t do but directly impact winning. Diaz’s numbers might not be the most attractive by the season’s end, but his impact will be felt by Westview.
Timmy Allen 6’6 SF 2018 Red Mountain (Utah)
Allen, a recent University of Utah commit, might be the best player in all of 6A right now. Further, he is certainly one of the best wings in 6A as well as the state. He can do a little bit of everything. He is capable of guarding an array of prospects while maximizing his ability on the offensive end due to that same versatility. Allen is a more than capable shooter with an array of live ball and post moves.
Ian Burke 6’4 SG 2018 Brophy
Burke is one of the top shooters in all of 6A. His ability to shoot coming off of screens as well as in catch and shoot situations make him an integral part of what Brophy does. Burke will need to continue his knockdown shooting if Brophy is going to have the type of success that many are projecting.
Jaxson Baker PowerHouse Hoops BrophyJaxson Baker 6’8 SF 2018 Brophy (Arkansas State)
Baker brings a lot of length and versatility to the floor. He can create from the wing and on the block. Moreover, he is a consistent shooting threat who is tough for opposing teams to close out on due to his length. If teams try to put their big on him, Baker is capable of taking him off of the dribble. Baker is one of the most talented shooting wings in the state.
Kyle Patterson 6’4 SG 2019 Perry
Patterson made a name for himself at Gilbert Christian due to his ability to do a little bit of everything. He is a score first wing who does a nice job on the glass. Although this will be a leap from Gilbert Christian to Perry, Patterson has demonstrated a skill set that will allow for him to be successful regardless of the classification.
Melek Alexander 6’3 SG 2018 Corona Del Sol
Alexander will be one of the key contributors for Corona Del Sol this upcoming season. Although Del Sol will be losing the presence of two top tier guards, they have some young talent. Alexander will be expected to be a leader for this group and carry a scoring role. Further, he will benefit from the strong guard play of Eric Blackwell Eric Blackwell 6'0" | CG Corona del Sol | 2020 State AZ and Dalen Terry Dalen Terry 6'7" | PG Hillcrest Prep | 2020 State #32 Nation AZ as they will utilize his ability to catch and shoot at a high rate from deep.
Wesley Harris 6’6 SF/PF 2018 Desert Vista
Harris has a motor that never quits. He is a ball-hawk who constantly finds a way to get his hands on the 50/50 basketballs. His workhorse mentality mixed with his athleticism makes him an absolute game changer. As his consistency with shooting the basketball from deep continues to improve, his stock will continue to rise. Harris is one of the most athletic wings in the state.
