This was my first time seeing Dexter play and it is easy to see why he is one of the top long-term prospects in this Minnesota freshman class. There’s a lot to like with his 6’7” frame and perimeter skill. He used that size to make a difference in the paint, playing tough defense on a bigger opponent and rebounding well. Simmons’ perimeter skillset and scoring abilities is what caught my eye most, as he is a knockdown shooter from beyond the arc and put the ball on the floor to get to a pull-up mid-range.

Simmons displayed some really solid decision making at the high-post while facing a zone. He cleans up the glass on both sides of the floor, sets solid screens, and takes and makes high-percentage shots. The 6’6″ forward deters and blocks a lot of shots thanks to his size and length. Simmons is always active. Being able to make smart passes at his size and impact the defensive end the way he does allows Simmons to change the game in a variety of ways.

The 2029 prospect was playing up an age group with the 14U’s. He’s around 6’3” already and can run some and can stretch the floor from three. Because of this, I think he translates well in the future, with the current and changing landscape of basketball. Length and shooting range are being more and more coveted. One to watch to see how he develops.
