Recruiting Report: Kamari Williams (2019)
Kamari Williams has seen his recruitment trend up in recent weeks. The 6-foot-7 junior, who picked up offers from George Mason and St. Joe’s this week, is not taking any of this for granted. Williams understands that he needs to continue to work, and is challenging himself both on and off the floor.
“Mostly every coach I talk to says I need to get in the gym and get bigger,” Williams stated. “I think I’m going to fill out eventually. My metabolism is really high. I need to stay in the weight room.”
Williams hit 31 threes last season for Head Coach Kevin Jones at St. Andrew’s. Not only will he be expected to pick up his production, but he will be asked to lead a relatively young team. Williams acknowledged the fact that he needs to step up.
“My coaches want more from me, Heru (Bligen), and all our starters this year,” said Williams. “The biggest thing I learned during AAU was how to score off the dribble. Playing off contact. My game got a lot better over the summer.”
Siena is one school that loved what they saw from Williams this summer, and offered on the spot. Cincinnati could offer soon. Williams, who visited Monmouth with his family over the summer, also attended elite camp at Syracuse.
“It’s a nice school,” Williams said of Monmouth. “It’s one of those schools that’s a smaller campus. It’s not as big, but I think it could be a really good fit for me. I like that school.”
As a Lakers fan, Williams models his game after his favorite player, Brandon Ingram. Williams mentioned that he looks up to Ingram, a player he’s followed since his freshman year at Duke, and tries to study his game.
“The only thing I really care about is the coaching staff,” said Williams when asked about potential factors in his college decision. “I think I’ll get along with the coaches and players on my team. It doesn’t really matter where I’m playing at.”
