On Wednesday evening I attended the first round matchups of the Delaware County Tournament at Delta High School. The games weren't overly competitive, but their were two highly ranked teams on the floor and several quality prospects worth talking about. Let's dive in and take a look at the two quarterfinal contests from Wednesday night.

Daleville fell behind in a hurry, but fought their way back into the game trailing by nine points at halftime and cutting it to as low as six during their strong run. However, there was too much size and talent on the Eagles side for the Broncos to pull the upset. Delta was ranked #3 in this week's Prep Hoops Indiana Class 3A poll and eventually rolled to a 68-47 victory. Recent Saint Francis commit [player_tooltip player_id='1275729' first='D'Amare' last='Hood'] led the way with 24 points while fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='1158184' first='Jackson' last='Wors'] chipped in 21 points as the Eagles advanced to face Wes-Del in the Delaware County Semifinals. [player_tooltip player_id='2282453' first='Meryck' last='Adams'] scored a game-high 26 points in the loss for Daleville.

Wapahani 73 Cowan 51

The Raiders rolled on to the Delaware County Tournament Semifinals with a 73-51 victory over Cowan. Wapahani, ranked #2 in this week's Prep Hoops Indiana Class 2A poll, moved to a perfect 12-0 on the season with the win. Unsigned senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1158181' first='Isaac' last='Andrews'] poured in 27 points to lead all scorers while also dishing out 6 assists. [player_tooltip player_id='1561131' first='Camden' last='Bell'] added 20 points for the Raiders. Mason Kidd led Cowan with 22 points in the loss and 6'8" senior big man [player_tooltip player_id='1275811' first='Cole' last='Duncan'] finished with 11 points.

Semifinal Preview

On Friday night it'll be Delta (11-2) versus Wes-Del (3-7) followed by Yorktown (6-5) versus Wapahani (12-0). On paper, it looks like a collision course to Saturday's championship game for Delta and Wapahani, but don't sleep on Yorktown. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1578430' first='Kieran' last='Tewari'] is averaging 14.6 points per game while Jacob Grim chips in 10.1 points and 4.0 assists per game. They've played an excellent schedule and recently rattled off five consecutive wins, including an impressive overtime victory over Anderson, before falling to Class 4A #3 Westfield. The Tigers lost by two points earlier this season at Delta. Wapahani, the defending Delaware County Tournament champions, won't be able to sleepwalk their way back to the finals.
