-Carter picked up offers from Wofford and Eastern Kentucky en route to a championship photo finish this week for his HMA group. Carter showed his versatility as an aggressive downhill slasher that uses long strides to cover ground quickly, taking more efficient angles to the rim to gain and keep the half step advantage on his matchup on drives to the cup. Think Carter projects nicely as a toolsy 3+D wing that has the long term upside to eventually be a pretty elite shot-creator and scorer with the ball in his hands.

He plays above the rim and is always a threat to make a highlight play. While it was good to see him knock one down from the perimeter, improving his outside shot remains one of the biggest areas for growth in his game. He finished with 14 points, scoring in a variety of ways, and also made several hustle plays. In addition, he showed he can be unselfish and create opportunities for his teammates. Mid and low major programs in need of versatility need to make Carter a priority.

Carter put together a strong month of September as college coaches made their way to fall workouts as the 6-foot-6 hybrid forward picked up offers from Holy Cross and UMass Lowell. He’s a versatile piece at both ends of the floor who can use his length and athleticism to leave his fingerprints on the effort. Hargrave manufactured an impressive performance against a scrappy Petersburg (VA) bunch in a group effort, but Carter’s hardhat approach on drives, second-chance opportunities, or runout in transition resulted in scores around the rim as well as trips to the charity stripe. Carter showed some ability as the lead man on the break as well as he kept his eyes up and found streaking teammates, headlined by a nice lob to

-Thought that Carter had some really nice flashes as a wing prospect that can rebound the basketball, guard multiple spots, get to the rim, and hit perimeter jumpers. With great positional size and athletic tools, Carter’s offensive rebounding and shot-making was a big part of Hargrave’s late run that cut the lead to two baskets. Want to see more consistency in his ball-handling to enable him to see the floor better while on the move and deliver some passes to take advantage of his scoring gravity— but there is a really intriguing blend of talents here to track.

was really good for Hargrave late against McNamara. Jhett was great shooting the three all day. Jhett has really good size for a two-guard, and he showed off his athleticism a few times today. Jhett can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, and I love his potential defensively. His size allows him to be a guard or wing, and he can be a guy who locks down perimeter players and wings. He’s not great at handling the ball yet, but I love what he can bring as a shooter and on defense.

One more newcomer to the region, Carter has made a splash with his hard-nosed, athletic play since coming to Hargrave via Astronaut (FL). Carter is at his best in transition where he can use his instincts and physical tools to wreak havoc filling lanes and playing high above the rim. He shows instincts as a cutter in the halfcourt with the bounce and aggressive mentality to finish strong in traffic. Despite limitations with his ball skills, Carter has proven himself as a clearcut D1 wing with a wide range of potential levels based largely on his consistency as a shotmaker.

2023-2024 Stats: 13.8 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 2.0 APG & 2.5 SPGrnThe 6-6 junior wing has displayed a smooth touch when it comes to scoring around the rim on the offensive end. He continues to show why he has a huge upside and is developing a perimeter game that can cause him to be a threat to score on all three levels. On the defensive side, Carter is a freak athlete who can jump out of the gym to get on the glass as well as control the game at his own pace. Carter has a smooth handle for his size where he lets his craftiness not affect him to force bad passes. Expect numerous schools to hit up the recruiting trail following this season as he nears his senior year.

2023 stats: 15.7 PPG – 8.6 rebounds – 2.9 stealsA 6-6 forward prospect that can jump out of the gym with crazy bounce and protect the rim with it as well is someone college coaches should be in contact with. He’s getting it done in all phases for Astronaut (9-6) this season as he’s leading the team in various categories. The rising junior is really good upside because of his frame and advanced mechanics/understanding of the game. It runs in the Carter genes, and I expect this kid to keep getting better on both sides of the ball.
